TSC to Proceed with Construction at Shell's FLNG Facility

Technip Samsung Consortium received notice from Shell to proceed with construction of the first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility in the world. The company will engineer, procure, construct and install the FLNG facility at the Prelude gas field off the northwest coast of Australia.

The Prelude facility will produce gas from offshore fields and liquefy it onboard by cooling. Detailed design of the facility will occur at Technip’s operating centers in Paris, France and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Construction of the facility will take place at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, Korea.

The Prelude gas field is located in the Browse Basin offshore Western Australia in the WA-371-P permit. Shell is the operator and 100% equity holder of the WA-371-P permit, approximately 295 miles (475 kilometers) northeast of Broome, Western Australia, and more than 124 miles (200 kilometers) from the nearest point on the mainland.
