Job Description:
PURPOSE:

Summarize briefly the major function and purpose of the position.

The Customer Support Engineering Department consists of degreed engineers, mechanical, electrical, industrial, petroleum engineers, etc., that are hands-on, product-application oriented engineers that function in an onshore and/or offshore work environment.  Customer Support Engineers provide detailed engineering planning and execution services for installation, intervention, refurbishment and maintenance of FMC subsea and topsides equipment.

Customer Support Engineering major responsibilities include: field installation support, technical documentation, product design review and validation, technical planning, customer interfaces, project execution, product and system troubleshooting, performance testing, product maintenance, repair and refurbishment.  Our goal is to provide technical support and services for FMC products in safe and timely manner that adhere to quality and reliability requirements that enable customer success.  

CS Systems Installation Engineering Manager duties include:

  • Management of direct reports, made up of Systems Installation engineers and engineers working on International Rotation.
  • Resource allocation and utilization for GOM and international projects.
  • Performance development planning and competency assessments for direct reports.  
  • Salary planning and personnel performance evaluations and discussions.
  • Interviewing and recruitment activities for entry level and higher engineering positions for the department.
  • Participate in Stage Gate reviews for both EPC and MMRS
  • Participate in cross functional quality initiative teams within the Customer Support.
  • Develop strategies to address Key Business Objectives; construct action plans and key performance metrics.
  • Participate in design review meetings for new product development
  • Train and mentor engineers in offshore troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Review and approve offshore engineering monthly bonus report, adjust personnel offshore assignments accordingly to prevent excessive offshore time on annual basis.
  • On-call for technical support and offshore performance related events.
  • Develop technical and resource allocation presentations for internal and external use  
  • Provide technical and commercial support for EPC quotes as well as CS quotes and/or CTR development.
  • Review and approval of direct reports monthly expense reports
  • Weekly review and approval of timesheets for direct reports

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

What are the minimum qualifications an employee must have in order to perform the duties of the position (i.e. educational requirements, licenses, certification, work experience, training, etc.)?

  • BS in engineering with 5-10 years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, management experience a plus
  • Capable of managing and working in a diverse (multi-cultural, multi-disciplined) team environment.
  • Knowledge of FMC products and offshore installation and work over processes.
  • Experience working in offshore environment on MODUs with FMC and/or competitors equipment
  • Embodies a customer-oriented attitude and the ability to lead and manage others without close supervision.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate effective report writing and presentation skills.
  • PC skills with proficiency in spreadsheet, word processing, relational database, project management software, SAP and electronic document control software.  
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to effectively present information to senior management, project groups and/or customer representatives.

  • Regional Operating Procedures, STOP/START Safety Program, SAP orientation, FMC Product Knowledge Training
  • FMC Leadership Development modules I-IV.

RELATIONSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

Indicate positions that report directly to this position.   Number of direct / indirect reports.

  • As many as 30 total direct reports, no indirect reports.
  • Acts as a mentor and provides guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Assists with training, monitoring and coaching less experienced staff in discipline and methodologies of document control.

Indicate internal/external contacts and purpose of contacts.

  • Frequent contact and interface with Project/Program Managers, Product Group Engineering departments, onshore Assembly and Maintenance Technicians, Technical Service Professionals, Vendors, Contractors and regional engineering teams.
  • Frequent interface with internal and external project stakeholders identifying/clarifying technical scope, problem solving, and building strong relationships leading to new business opportunities.
  • Has strong customer contacts and is viewed as a strong resource for sales to leverage higher-level customer relations
  • Called upon consistently for external technical advice; speaking engagements

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY:

Indicate budget/revenue responsibility.

  • Wells Fargo PCard Approval.
  • Personnel salary & compensation.
  • Complete 601 forms for new and transferring personnel.

Explain the degree of supervision/guidance, procedures/ processes used, judgement, creativity, planning & resourcefulness needed to do the job.  

  • Manage and promote safe, high quality, high quantity and on-time-delivery of assigned project deliverables communicated from project teams and other departments.
  • Ensure that all customer meetings are attended and serve as FMC management/ technical focal point between FMC and client.
  • Provide SIE engineering team management and mentor new engineers.
  • Ensure that department personnel make sound technical decisions based on data and analysis.
  • Ensure that technical leadership is provided to work shop technicians and build effective relationships with peers, co-workers, customers, and industry representatives.
  • Ensure assistance with on/offshore personnel including operations coordinators, workshop manager and quality department on technical requests during and after normal business hours.
  • Ensure technical disposition and troubleshooting is provided on non conforming FMC equipment and tools.
  • Manage development of technical data relating to field non-conformances.
  • Manage engineering input into the construction of customer proposals with client and FMC personnel for major equipment refurbishments and tool campaigns.
  • Manage the implementation of processes and procedures.
  • Ensure support for the development & implementation of engineering tools to support CS Engineering.
  • Ensure onshore engineering support for offshore installation projects.
  • Ensure that assistance is provided to technical sales, marketing, and training.
  • Provide Customer technical management while developing and maintaining strong working relationships.

  • Spends 90% of time sitting and operating a computer or workstation.  Spends 10% of time in work shop or outside in SIT area. May require lifting, pushing, walking or some climbing.

  • E   Manage personnel project assignments and resources loading.
  • E   Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
  • E   Familiar with and can utilize industry code requirements, quality requirements, and customer requirements.
  • E   Develop engineering local work instructions and processes related to department.  Review and provide feedback on Stage Gate process and procedures as well as Global Work Instructions.
  • E   Mentor and coach direct reports, perform performance development discussions and personnel development agreement and training plans.
  • E   Specialist knowledge in understanding/interpretation of schematics and the ability to troubleshoot hydraulic systems.
  • E   Reviews and approves technical documentation related to engineering changes; ECN (Engineering Change Notices), DBI (Data Base Information) and engineering specification/requirements and ensures conformance to all policies and procedures related to engineering deliverables.
  • E   Develop solutions to problems by analyzing, interpreting and evaluating data.  Anticipates potential problem and identifies and proposes required preventive actions.
  • E   Participate in design reviews and consult with other departments on designs, and field related applications.
  • E   Provide on/offshore technical support for assembly/refurbishment and offshore operations.  Identify root cause of problems and document appropriately.  Develop and communicate alternative solutions and associated benefits and risks.
  • E   Reviews/approves clear technical instructions regarding refurbishment, installations, and/or repair of equipment following agreed practice.
  • E   Disposition and provide technical supporting documentation to close Corrective Action Requests.
  • E   Promote an environment where people feel comfortable sharing ideas and encourages teamwork to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • E   Review direct reports timesheets on weekly basis to ensure proper and timely entry of engineering hours in SAP.
  • E  Advanced understanding of relevant work processes as defined in the HOP and relevant GWI and LWI.  Advanced understanding of relevant SAP workflow and applications.
  • E   Advanced understanding of subsea environment with respect to materials, cathodic protection, corrosion (pitting, HISC, galvanic etc.), calcareous deposits, marine growth.
  • E   Advanced understanding of different coating and surface treatment applications (Xylan, paint, electroless nickel, phosphating, nitriding, carburising etc.).
  • E   Can perform/lead an FMECA, Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), and Hazard and Identification Study (HAZID).
  • E   Is considered to have expert knowledge about safety aspects related to real-life environment of using/installing FMC equipment, at onsite and offsite locations.
  • E   Attends appropriate industry related professional society meetings and functions in order to stay informed and make good use of new technologies, products and personal development opportunities.
  • N   Write and present technical papers for publishing in appropriate professional industry publications or forum
