Mechanical Reliability Engineer

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

Under general supervision, performs FMECA, Reliability Predictions, Stress Analyses and Life Analyses. Develops reliability analysis reports, qualification test plans and procedures. Performs and monitors qualification testing of products, and compiles test data into reports for management. In addition to the above, the engineer will be required to analyze and interpret field and test data using reliability statistics. Performs other duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs Design for Reliability tasks for new products in accordance with the Product Development and Management process.
  • Ensures design conforms to standards/quality. Identifies potential areas for improvement in design and communicates to project team.
  • Attends and participates in meetings regarding new product introduction, and is responsible to deliver, on time, the reliability deliverables.
  • Develops reports related to product reliability, utilizing available software applications and takes improvement actions on the results.
  • Performs analytical measurements and experiments to qualify or resolve product and process issues.
  • Actively engages with engineers in Product Development, Product Line, and Marketing/Operations during the conceptual and prototype stages of new product development.
  • Performs reliability predictions, and life cycle analyses on HCC designed products.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills that clearly convey information and ideas. Ability to communicate to individuals or groups through a variety of media in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand the information.
  • Ability to use Word, Excel and Microsoft Project to a level of professional proficiency. Able to produce professional Engineering reports including introductions, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to use advanced technical skills such as CAD (3-D modeling and 2D drafting) and Finite Element Analysis tools and interpretation.
  • Has experience with mechanical reliability testing such as qualification testing, accelerated life testing and reliability growth testing.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve technical problems of a moderate complexity quickly and independently.
  • Ability to use and navigate reliability analysis software programs for the analysis of raw attribute and variable data. Experience with Reliasoft, Relex and Minitab is desired.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and achieve completion milestones as set by upper management.
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to participate in meetings or lead meetings as needed to find solutions to complex reliability problems.
  • Basic knowledge of Statistics and Six Sigma techniques, such as FMEA, DOE, and Scorecards.
  • Understanding of oil and gas drilling tools such as drill bits and BHA is preferred but not necessary.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ year or Masters degree in Reliability or Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years experience.
