The San Juan Business Unit (SJBU) is one of three that make up the L48 BU and is the largest producer in the state of New Mexico. The SJBU provides approximately 11% of the ConocoPhillips production and 16% reserves (1.3 BBO and 8 TCFE).

Responsibilities
The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for providing leadership and expertise to ensure implementation of Quality Management System (QMS) concepts and philosophies across the assigned operating asset. The primary function of this position is to lead the development, implementation and execution of Quality Management System (QMS) programs, processes and procedures.
The position must maintain close relationships with Operations, Engineering, Projects and Maintenance Groups. The position has no direct reports, but will fulfill an influencing role with all parts of the organization to drive efficient and effective QMS programs and provide the foundation for sustainable BU gains.
The Quality Assurance Engineer will drive efficient , effective, and fit-for-purpose QMS programs, assuring that the business unit activities align with corporate values and while achieving local objectives. Responsibilities for the Quality Assurance Engineer may include:- Understanding the detailed requirements of ISO 9000 and 9001 for Quality Management Systems (QMS) and overseeing the development, maintenance and implementation of a QMS in accordance with that standard
- Responsible for the development and implementation of Project Quality Plans (PQPs) and Inspection Plans
- Direct 3rd Party Inspection Teams for quality monitoring, surveillance, and assessment activities
- Developing Quality Surveillance and Audit Strategies and schedules
- Directing the development of QMS Procedures for Internal and External Quality Systems
- Developing and participating in the process for qualification, pre-qualification, evaluation and auditing of Vendors and Contractors
- Ensuring contractor, vendor and fabricator's QMS are being implemented and meet ConocoPhillips and Business Unit requirements
- Managing project construction surveillance and audit programs
- Supporting the project documentation turnover process
- Conducting Audits and Surveillances for the evaluation of vendors and suppliers in accordance with Project Quality Plans
- Coordinates collating Quality Audit reports and QA/QC Team recommendations for presentations to Business Unit Management
- Managing Nonconformity and Corrective Action reports and tracking them to close out
- Coordinating and assisting in the process for the establishment, review and approval of project specifications by the Project Team Managers, Engineers and Specialists
- Assisting in the internal Audits for all the processes and procedures during the various phases of the Project
- Assisting in the development, audits and implementation of the QMS Document Control processes
- Assisting in the development and implementation of Quality Awareness training
Basic/Required Qualifications- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 10+ years of project and engineering or QA management experience in the oil/gas industry
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering & construction codes and standards such as ASME BPVC, API, AWS, and ASME B31piping codes
- Fully familiar with the requirements of ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems and able to develop, maintain and implement a QMS in accordance with that standard
Preferred Qualifications- 15+ years of project and engineering or QA management experience in the oil/gas industry
- Clearly demonstrated strong technical competence
- A good, sound knowledge of QA and Audit methodology Certifications related to inspection, welding or QA/QC such as ASNT, AWS, International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA), and Institute of Quality Assurance (IQA), etc.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to effectively work across organizational boundaries. Has demonstrated the ability to influence others while building and maintaining effective relationships.
- Sincere passion for Safety Leadership and ability to demonstrate that passion on a daily basis
- Experience working in a team environment
- Computer proficient (ability to perform the skill with limited assistance) with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel software
Awareness of SAP applications and processes
- Well developed planning and organizational skills including the ability to work independently, prioritize activities, meet commitments, and produce desired results in a fast paced environment
- Working knowledge of Process Safety Management and Management of Change
- Strong organizational skills to handle day-to-day and multiple projects at one time
- Ability to self start and work alone with a high energy level
- Strong written and oral communication, networking, prioritization and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse, multi-disciplined workforce are necessary in this function
- Must be able to drive the Business Unit QMS efforts as well as ConocoPhillips' core (SPIRIT) values
