Top Drive Field Service Technician

Job Description:
GDS International, a company specializing in all Top Drive Repair, Engineering, Application and Spare Parts is seeking to fill position of Top Drive Service Technician for work at the Customer's location as well as at our facility. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager. The successful candidate will possess in depth knowledge of top drive electrical configurations, programs, equipment operations and will be able to effectively troubleshoot top drives at the Customer's site.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 2+ years experience as a Top Drive Engineer, experienced with Varco, Tesco and Canrig Top Drives and the ability to travel domestically whenever required
  • Professional Certifications and Trade Training
  • Able to use basic hand tools as well as oscilloscope and multi-meter.
  • Familiar with Allen-Bradley PLCs, RSLogix 5000 Software, Siemens Step 7, Panelview HMIs, and Factory Talk Software.
  • Familiar with Yaskawa, ABB or Siemens VFD systems.
  • Familiar with Generator Controls.
  • Familiar with Communication Systems (Ethernet, Modbus, etc.).
  • Able to read  Hydraulic and Electric schematics for top drive systems
  • Strong Communication Skills and the desire to be a leader in Service
  • Able to liaise with the Customer regarding maintenance / repairs and planning ahead so as to avoid the risk of delay through equipment breakdown.
  • Basic Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Able to gain respect from Customers through hard work and equipment knowledge
  • Prepare accurate records on the maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Analyze equipment malfunctions.
  • Knowledge and Experience with other Drilling and Traveling Equipment an asset
  • Work requires travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections. This requires the possession of a valid state driver's license.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to obtain a passport preferred.
