Job Description
The Engineer Senior position is responsible for the design and development of medical devices and instrumentation in the R&D group of a medical device manufacturer. Responsible for the functional and empirical analysis related to designing, prototyping, and testing designs for medical equipment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as engineering lead on projects, integrating all aspects of design work from other engineers (mechanical, electrical and software) to complete design and development of products.
- Develop product-engineering requirements.
- Develop system level hazard analysis and generate design proof test guidelines for products.
- Work with Project Managers and Technical Leads to ensure compliance and effectiveness of Product Development Process.
- Assist in prototyping the design including sourcing of materials for the initial model, the product test models and the market test models.
- Generate and execute test procedures to verify product performance against requirements.
- Lead Drafting resources in the documentation of the product by providing the necessary input for completion of specification sheets, part drawings and assembly drawing. Manage product documentation through the Change Order and Release process.
- Review existing patents and submit invention disclosures to create and protect KCI intellectual property.
- Assist in product manual development with marketing and legal inputs.
- Support evaluation and selection of vendors.
- Develop guidelines for manufacturing inspection/test procedures and equipment.
- Support product manufacturing by supplying alternate sourcing advice including vendor or component analysis, alternate manufacturing process deviations, and cost improvement design changes.
- Present project plans, designs, and test results to project team.
- Ensure that technical detail design reviews are completed for assigned projects.
- Conduct technical detail design reviews for other projects.
- Mentor junior Engineers, Technicians and Designers in technical and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors' degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- At least 10 years Mechanical Design experience: Mechanics, Structures, Fluid Dynamics, or Controls.
- Experience with MicroSoft Office applications including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutLook
- Demonstrated knowledge of Materials: including plastics (including tooling), steels, and aluminum.
- Experience in manufacturing processes.
- Experience in regulated design environments - specifically medical device development, FDA or ISO registered work experience.
- Ability to work with all employees and external business contacts while conveying a positive, service oriented attitude.
- Demonstrated presentation and communication including technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in business relationships and exercise sound business judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling experience.
- COSMOS or similar FEA
- Project management experience
- Experience with FDA and ISO requirements
