Job Description:
Description of Duties
  • Responsible for handling medium size engineering projects (other than new construction) such as upgrades and additions by specifying work scope, providing design of systems, simple structural design, shipyard/subcontractors specifications, equipment selection and interfacing with other disciplines in the department as needed.
  • If needed, the successful candidate will work with outside engineering firms to obtain detailed designs and analyses for projects or jobs that cannot be handled in house by specifying the work required, obtaining cost and delivery and supervising and providing guidance to them for the work undertaken.
  • He/She will provide design for individual systems such as machinery layouts, piping schematics and diagrams, machinery foundations, HVAC, sizing specification of hull and drilling equipment, etc.
  • He/She will provide cost estimates for budgeting as well as scheduling for the jobs.
  • He/She will oversee the implementation of these jobs at a shipyard site or offshore if possible.
  • He/She will assure compliance with regulatory, class and code requirements and shall submit drawings and studies for approval by classification society.
  • He/She will conduct in house site assessments for Jack-up bids and mooring and riser analysis for semisubmersible bids.
  • He/She will be required to work with clients to establish their requirements and expectations for projects driven by charterers as well as the operations department on their requests for change.
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years experience in design, equipment selection and sizing, project engineering and shipyard/subcontractor project exposure preferably with an offshore drilling contractor in positions of progressive responsibility.
Qualifications
  • A B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. Attendance of industry sponsored schools desirable.
  • Familiarization with Drilling systems essential.
  • Familiarization with Computer based analysis programs desirable.
  • Auto CAD proficiency desired, MS Office programs proficiency.
Base of operations and Reporting
  • The candidate will be based in Houston, Texas with moderate travel to inspect and survey rigs or supervise jobs/projects.
Residency Status
  • The candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident or in the U.S. with a valid work visa.
