PURPOSE

The GoM JIU Production Engineer is accountable for providing production engineering expertise to maximize production and reduce operating costs for BHPB's interests in non-operated assets in the Gulf of Mexico (Atlantis, Mad Dog, and Genesis). In the non-Operator role, BHPB adds value to the producing assets through production monitoring and reporting (governance) and by working with the operator to ensure fields are operated in a manner which maximizes asset value (influence).  In addition, as a non-Operator BHPB extracts value by capturing lessons learned (learning) which may then be applied on other BHPB-Operated projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Day-to-day monitoring of production and well related activities for Atlantis, Mad Dog and Genesis fields.
  • Provide responsive engineering advice, study results, and compelling recommendations to the team in a timely manner
  • Stewardship of all well related AFEs (Expense and Capital)
  • Develop recommendations and influence operator actions
  • Participation in development of annual Petroleum budgets
  • Ongoing production reporting to Petroleum Management
  • Import best practice and key learning's from the Operator
  • Ensure timely receipt of key operating data from Operator to evaluate well/field performance

RESPONSIBILITIES

This role requires coordination/communication with a wide range of both BHPB and non-BHPB personnel.  Successful performance in the role will require the ability to quickly form and maintain effective relationships with the Operating Partner's teams and with the GoM JIU.  Specific roles and responsibilities include:

  • Support HSEC initiatives and ensure compliance with the agreed HSEC procedures/policies and Management Standards
  • Attend meetings with Operator/Partners and be prepared to influence Operator actions
  • Identify production enhancement and de-bottlenecking opportunities for Atlantis and Mad Dog fields
  • Actively participate in weekly partner calls
  • Monitor and analyse well performance including nodal analysis modelling (PROSPER), decline curve analysis, and pressure transient analysis
  • Monitor and analyse field performance including network modelling (GAP), material balance modelling (MBAL), and downtime/choke modelling
  • Progress well related AFEs through GoM JIU approval process including preparation of project justification pack and economic evaluation
  • Work with the Operator to develop and maintain an understanding of  issues that could hinder delivery of the production forecast to enable early identification of problems and associated mitigations
  • Maintain OFM databases for evaluating and reporting production performance
  • Develop inputs for internal CAP processes, including annual budget, for all GoM JIU projects
  • Assist the GoM JIU Finance Team in developing and maintaining project opex forecasts
  • Assist the GoM JIU Finance Team with validation of JIB's, accruals, cash calls, etc.
  • Participate in GoM JIU team meetings
  • Develop and maintain networks/relationships with key peers and colleagues in others teams for purposes of knowledge sharing.

EXPERIENCE

8 years+ experience in the upstream oil and gas industry with expertise in:

  • Production monitoring, optimization, short-term forecasting, and production operations
  • Experience with completion design/operations - conceptual through production including artificial lift, stimulation techniques, gravel pack and fracturing operations, and Smart Well completions
  • Experience with deepwater developments and Operating company is highly desirable
  • Well performance evaluation experience including pressure transient analysis preferred
  • Demonstrated teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated influencing skills and ability to work with partners in both formal and informal settings.

And experience in:

  • Economic Analysis
  • BHPB Governance Processes
  • HSEC Management Systems
  • PROPSER / MBAL / GAP

LANGUAGES

  • English language preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Petroleum, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
