Job Description:

Job Summary: This person provides technical advice to the customer on the initial pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up for supplied process technologies and equipment. This engineer also provides technical assistance to the customer for existing supplied technologies and equipment. In the home office, responsibilities include participation in the design of units through actual engineering tasks and various engineering reviews, the development of training materials and the preparation of start-up and operating manuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (scope):

• Technical Service
- Perform P&ID walk-downs at the customer's plant and at the packaging vendor's facilities, including cold boxes at our New Iberia, LA facility
- Track and resolve punch list items resulting from P&ID walk-downs
- Ability to perform plant equipment inspections, requires climbing ladders and stairs for cold boxes, equipment skids and structures and entering vessels
- Conduct on-site training of customer personnel
- Provide advice to the customer and observe activities during pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up
- Witness acceptance tests and provide advice as required during test
- Provide technical service assistance to customers, includes troubleshooting and re-optimization of process operating conditions

• Home Office
- Prepare Start-up and Operation Manuals for supplied technologies
- Develop training program material intended for classroom and on-the-job training of client personnel
- Suggest improvements for engineering design and procedures based on lessons learned from start-up experiences
- Participate in developing and reviewing P&IDs, model reviews, hazard reviews and operability and reliability reviews
- Provide process design engineering tasks during basic engineering package development, as needed

Qualifications Needed for Success in Position

• Cryogenic Industry Specific
- Experience with cryogenic hydrocarbon processing units such as: LNG, NGL Recovery, NRU, ethylene cold end separation and hydrogen separation from light hydrocarbons and nitrogen.
- Knowledge of pre-treatment systems for cryogenic hydrocarbon units, includes amine, dehydration and mercury removal systems
- Process engineering experience in the design of highly engineered hydrocarbon process systems, includes steady state simulation, equipment sizing and hydraulic calculations such as control valve, relief valve and line sizing
- Prior experience in pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup and operation of cryogenic and associated treatment units, including a broad knowledge of precedents, principles and practices.

• Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to represent Chart in front of customers
- Customer focused skills , including the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with people from a diverse range of management, engineering and operating disciplines
- Strong written and verbal skills to present process solutions to customers, management and employees
- Prior experience in technical writing and development of operating manuals and procedures

• Other Skills/Experience
- Ability to remain composed and clear thinking during high stress start-up situations
- Strong understanding of process engineering and how it relates to machinery, mechanical equipment, instrumentation and controls
- Superior decision making skills, including the ability to perform technical troubleshooting and make decisions with less than optimal data
- Ability to secure data, analyze facts, draw conclusions and recommend courses of action
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively within a team

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor Degree Chemical Engineering preferred, but will consider a Bachelor Degree Engineering with the necessary skill sets and experience
• More than 10 years of cryogenic hydrocarbon process engineering experience with a minimum of 5 years of related field service operations experience
• PE License desirable

Physical Requirements

- Reasonable level of physical fitness, as the work at times requires significant walking and ascending and descending of ladders and stairs
- Extensive travel is required at times, with extended field assignments for several weeks
- Flexibility to work extended hours and shift work as business dictates
- Ability to travel internationally

Required Knowledge

• Steady state and dynamic process simulations software, such as HYSIS, PRO II and DYNSIM
• Applicable engineering codes
• Microsoft Office
