Roles & Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Understudy the DP Operator, Junior Watchkeeper when rig in DP or in conventional mode. Understand the responsibilities for the safe operation of the watch.
Assist the DPO in ensuring that the DP watch is conducted in accordance with IMCA recommendations and in addition to any Company or client requirements as agreed and always bearing in mind the safety of the operation.
Assist DPO in the monitoring and control all rig movements whilst in DP and closely monitor rigs position and DP status paying particular attention to position maintenance, sensors, thruster response and performance and available power whilst drilling operations are being conducted.
Assume the role of OOW responsible for safe navigation and conduct of the vessel when not in DP as required by Master/OIM.
Under the direction of the DPO ensure DP system is operating correctly in accordance with Company Station Keeping Philosophy DP Vessels. Assist DPO in ensuring all DP trials and tests are conducted as laid down in the guidelines or as required by Stena Drilling or their clients.
Assist DPO in keeping a close watch on the weather and make allowances for present and expected weather trends or deterioration. Inform DP Operator if conditions are likely to deteriorate sufficiently to abandon operations, differ from the forecast or that any unexpected weather may give reason for concern.
Assist in keeping logs as to the testing, trials, operation and any anomalies in the DP operation or equipment. Maintain marine operational and maintenance DP log book.
Learn the importance of maintaining a shift handover book relating to the DP operation and any system or weather concerns which may affect the operation.
Assist DPO in monitoring other vessel movements within the area.
Assist in ensuring all other navigation equipment is operating correctly. Prepare Bridge for sea as required by statute and also report all defects. Maintain Bridge /Control Room in seagoing condition and navigational readiness at all times.
Assist as required during DP/clients audits.
Assist with any administration which may be incurred by the rig, Company or client under the direction of the Senior DP Operator.
Assist with the monitoring and upkeep of HPR transponders and taut wire systems. Ensure maintenance logs are completed and system batteries are kept fully charged.
Assist with the maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment as directed by the Bargemaster/Barge Engineer.
Assist in the upkeep, updating and correcting of all navigational charts and nautical publications. Ensure corrections are up to date and navigational warnings displayed.
Carry out any other duties as directed by the Senior DP Operator/DP Operator.
Health & Safety & Environment
Work according to and promote Stena Drilling's HS&E Policy and Procedures.
Comply with Stena Drilling procedures for management of risk; ensuring that a suitable and sufficient risk assessment is carried out for all work activities.
This includes but is not limited to:
a. Task Risk assessment
b. Pre job plans
c. Lifting Assessment Plans
d. COSHH Assessments
Participate in the STOP system, complete and submit cards after discussions. Monitor and coach crew members to participate in STOP and carry out STOP audits.
Promote Stena Drilling's "Golden Rules" and the rig's "House Rules" during team discussions.
Attend and participate in Tool Box Talks.
Ensure work site is safe and that all tools used are in a satisfactory condition.
Ensure that storage, handling and use of chemicals are done in accordance with procedures.
Ensure equipment is secured to prevent movement due to wind or rig motion.
Fully commit to preventing any damage to the environment and work within Stena Drilling's HS&E Policy and Procedures.
Ensure familiar with correct use, type and location of all Oil Spill Equipment.
Comply with Stena Drilling's waste segregation policy.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential Qualifications - Unlimited OOW (Deck) U.K CoC or CeC
Desirable Qualifications: Chief Mate or Master Mariner is highly desirable and candidates in possession of superior certificates will be given preference. Completion of any DP training/induction courses
Desirable Experience: Service on Offshore Vessels in a Deck Officer capacity, Exposure to DP Operations
