Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will provide discipline technical support to the delivery and technical assurance of design aligned to achieve integrity of the new facilities and associated modifications to the existing facilities. The post holder will form a key member of the BP Project Engineering team, working in close cooperation with the EPMS contractor with responsibility for design and project execution. The role will be full time and is envisaged through to final commissioning.

Provide expertise on Mechanical Systems (valves, pressure vessels, piping etc) and oversight of the EPCM Contractor's work to ensure deliver of high standards of HSSE, integrity, ISD (Inherently Safer Design) and quality engineering. Ensuring that the requirements and expectations of the Operating Management System (OMS) and Integrity Management Standard are fully addressed.Ensure that BP Engineering Technical Practices (ETP) and Site technical Practices (STP) requirements are incorporated into the facilities design, through managing the preparation, review and acceptance of Mechanical Systems engineering deliverables
Provide discipline engineering input to development of the Statement of Requirements (SOR) and Basis of Designs (BoD).
Review and assurance of implementation of mechanical specifications for the projects.
Managing mechanical scope change, integration between project elements and overseeing technical interfaces related to mechanical systems.
Managing the engineering support received from any specialist engineering consultants and assuring the interfacing of this information through the delivery team.
Participate in engineering design reviews, project reviews and audits, ensuring the close out of mechanical related technical recommendations.
Involvement in vendor assessment and selection, resolution of vendor technical queries, and support FAT's.
Oversee and ensure that shop/field technical queries, non-conformances, concession requests, etc. are resolved in a proper and timely manner.
Ensure that the technical mechanical engineering data for the new facilities is correct for uploading into Maximo.
Capture all Mechanical Systems lessons learnt associated with the engineering design across all stages of the project.
Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with BP's Code of Conduct.

Provide discipline engineering input to PHSSERs/EDRs/Project Assurance reviews
Provide discipline engineering input to, and participate in project safety reviews such as HAZIDs/HAZOPs/LOPAs/Layout Reviews/Constructability Reviews.

Interface with the GPO and North Sea Region Mechanical TA on ETP deviations on relevant discipline engineering safety matters

Chartered Engineer; BSc. / BEng in Mechnical Engineering (or closely related discipline).

Track record of engineering competency and delivery in the Oil & Gas industry and able to demonstrate effective project management and leadership skills.
Familiarity with key mechanical system design interfaces such as process systems, materials and corrosion, structures, marine systems, etc.
Extensive knowledge and experience in UHP static equipment design and manufacture
Experience of supervising work in an Engineering Contractor's Design Office.
Experience of field engineering on a major construction site.
Ability to engage and work with operations personnel, stakeholders and project contractors / suppliers.
Excellent facilitation skills with ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the project and operations teams.
Attention to detail

Adequate exposure to key project stages (concept screening, concept selection, front end engineering design, detailed design and construction).
