The Well Planner skills fall between technical and engineering skills as a type of Engineering Technologist. The Well Planner will utilize engineering software packages to design well paths, in mathematical and graphic formats, for drilling engineers and geologists. With experience, the Well Planner will utilize more advanced software packages to perform torque & drag, hydraulics and BHA analysis to optimize all drilling parameters.
Ideal candidate must be able to work with little supervision and perform the following duties:
- This role will interface with directional personnel and key customers to produce well plans for directional drilling.
- Calculate customer information to form well plans that can be used to complete a graphic representation of calculated well paths
- Plot and prepare these graphic representations to deliver to customers and to rig locations
- Compile and maintain information for proposals and end of well recaps for customers
- Receive surveys from directional drillers in the field and enter them into the computer along with rig information to produce daily reports and compile end of well recaps to present to customers
- Maintain office and field computers
- Lead pre-planning meetings with customers
- Heavy client interface both written and in-person
- Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level
- Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job
- Ability to be on-call 24x7 nights/weekends/holidays for extended periods of time

SPECIFIC TRAINING & SKILLS
- Good technical, computer and mathematic skills are top desired skills
- Mathematics - geometry and geometric equations, basic algebra skills
- AutoCAD - create basic land coordinate drawings; extract data from land survey drawings (AutoCAD training/experience a plus, or must have the ability and willingness to learn)
- Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook - maintain and create spreadsheets and graphs; write letters, and create presentations in written and graphic formats
- Adobe Acrobat - convert documents into PDF files; modify, convert and extract data from PDF files
- Geographic - understand surface elevations; understand map location coordinates
QUALIFICATIONS
- General oilfield drilling, MWD/LWD, directional drilling or mud logging experience are heavily preferred
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering or Computer related field preferred
- CAD skills/experience a plus
- 1-3 years of oilfield experience required, with CAD or no CAD skills/experience
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Must be able to interface with customers and fellow employees
- Multi-tasking ability
- Willingness to learn knowledge of Directional Drilling practices
