Established FAST GROWING fabrication shop in Northwest Houston (290 and Beltway 8) is searching for a WELDING DEPARTMENT MANAGER FIRST SHIFT POSITION
Our company was founded in 1958 and has seen strong growth from the beginning. Our headquarters is in Houston, Texas and we have a satellite facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. We have a 60,000 square foot fabrication shop, 30,000 square foot machine shop and a brand new 20,000 square foot plating facility. Our core competencies include, laser machining both tube and plate, precision machining all metals, welding, punching, sheet metal fabrication, and tool and die. Currently, we are in the design process for a new 40,000 square foot fabrication shop to house the growing welding department and new laser machines we have purchased. The biggest bottle neck in our shop is welding, which also happens to be the fastest growing department. We have 7 welders and 3 grinders whose capabilities include MIG and TIG of carbon, stainless, and aluminum, and Flux Core. We weld parts that fit in your hand all the way to large spooling frames. Our main function is welding of structural frames, skids, and brackets. Our company utilizes Bluco fixturing, which is a staple among large OEMs What our company is looking for is a well-rounded, hard-working, managerial minded welder who can push this department to the next level both technologically and in productivity. This person must understand a company's need to make money by being productive, while bridging the gap between managers and welders. We need a manager who can weld and will weld but can also manage a schedule and participate in management meetings. This person will have full control of the department including hiring and firing. This position is forecasted to grow ten-fold in the next two years as we come on line with large OEMs. If you are reading this and have a desire to fill one of the most high profile and important positions in our company, please apply. This is not a baby sitting position for a group of welders. Much will be required, but you will be rewarded for strong results. Must have or be Minimum of 10 years of experience in welding. Must be able to MIG, TIG, and Flux Core weld. Strong blueprint reading skills and understand how to control tolerances Ability to lead others on a path of productivity and efficiency A good understanding of the inner workings of management but also possess the attitude of a welder. Strong organizational skills. Strong computer skills. Strong ethical beliefs and a respectful manner Knowledge of AWS welding specifications. All our welders are D1.1 certified. Positive, can-do attitude, who will work until the job is done. Ability to work overtime and weekends Fluent in English. Not somewhat able to speak it, but clean unbroken English. Experience with Bluco welding fixtures would be a great advantage
