 
Subsurface Technology (SST) is responsible for providing technical support and services to exploration, appraisal and development activity within BP's Western Hemisphere portfolio. The Geophysical Operations, Survey and Geohazard Team (GOSG) in Houston provides a variety of BP Regions (Canada, the Gulf of Mexico, Trinidad and Brazil) with support from high quality expert personnel to deliver world-class solutions on complex technical projects. To meet its planned exploration, field development and production objectives, BP wishes to appoint an experienced Site Investigation Specialist to join our GOSG Team in Houston. The successful candidate will provide delivery of exceptional quality geophysical site investigation and marine geohazard services in support of BP's drilling and field development activities in the Western Hemisphere.
Working as part of the BP Survey & Site Investigation Community, the Site Investigation Specialist will develop and interact with a global network of technical staff and be exposed to state-of-the-art tools, methodologies and technologies. You will be expected to take responsibility for all aspects of site investigation and marine geohazard interpretation and analysis. You will be committed to the achievement of the highest standards of HSSE performance for offshore site investigation operations activities and the impact your analyses have on future operational integrity while also ensuring adherence to appropriate Upstream Defined Practices and the S&OR function.
Produce Shallow Hazard Assessments and Top Hole Formation Forecasts for input to the well planning process and present assessments at pre-spud well planning meetings.
Participate in, and lead regional (quantitative) shallow geohazard assessment projects for exploration, appraisal and field development projects.
Be responsible for the planning, design and on occasion project management of High Resolution (HR), AUV, ROV and other site/geohazard survey operations in support of BP's drilling and field development activities. Assuring safe delivery of all site/geohazard survey operations is paramount.
Be responsible for quality assurance of acquired site investigation data (i.e. HR, Bathymetry, Sub-Bottom Profiler and Side Scan Sonar data), its processing, presentation, integration and interpretation, and the review of subsequent contractor reporting.
Review and QC the work of Site Survey Contractors and internal BP Geohazard Consultants.
MSc. degree in Geosciences (Geology or Geophysics).
Candidate will have proficient experience, in all aspects of Geophysical Site Surveys and Geohazard Assessment in a variety of geographical settings. It is important that the individual has:
Experience in all aspects of site/geohazard surveys including: project planning, project management, the acquisition, processing, quality control, integration, interpretation and presentation of various types geohazard data.
Familiarity with the general principles of top-hole drilling and the inputs required by operational groups to allow safe design and completion of the top-hole sections of a well.
Familiarity with the needs of geotechnical and facilities design engineers for field development.
A good understanding of the range of analogue and HR seismic acquisition equipment available to site investigation contractors and their respective capabilities and to be able to influence their future development plans for the benefit of BP.
