Our client, a major operator is currently seeking a qualified Operations Geologist to join their Atlantic Canada offshore operations team on a permanent basis.
The Geologist will have an opportunity to contribute in the following ways:
Ensure subsurface planning and execution of wells meets the company standards and practices.
Well planning: Detailed offset well reviews and geological characterisation Trajectory planning based on overburden and reservoir characterisation; building the geological description of the well path Risk management planning; lead or support well risk reviews Well data acquisition planning Preparation of pore pressure / fracture gradient forecasts Completion of well planning documentation with subsurface and drilling teams Well execution: Support or lead the subsurface aspects of well delivery Monitor drilling operations and make or inform operational decisions as required, based on the integration of real-time well data and geomodels Implement pore pressure detection and real-time updates of pore pressure / fracture gradient data Supervise wellsite geologists for the delivery of well objectives Provision of effective communications between subsurface and drilling teams Lead subsurface input into post-well reviews; write subsurface post well evaluation Supervise wellsite Geologists; provide guidance and standards
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a BSc Degree or equivalent in Geology or related sciences A broad geoscience background is required, with a passion for working in operational settings.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of technical specialists, external services, and partners, are necessary, as is the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in pore pressure prediction and analysis
- Experience in well planning and operations geology in the oil and gas industry, in a variety of geological and geographic settings
- Interpretation skills of real-time geological/petrophysical data and drilling information
- Experience in several of the following areas: High pressure Salt environments Deep water; high cost wells Seismic interpretation Horizontal wells; unconventional reservoirs Exploration, appraisal, and development wells Desirable criteria and qualifications Experience in geological model building - overburden and reservoir.
