PURPOSE:
Summarize briefly the major function and purpose of the position.
This intermediate level procurement position is responsible for obtaining goods and services as assigned, and ensuring that quality, cost effective products are delivered in a timely manner. Executes procurement strategies for assigned components.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
What are the minimum qualifications an employee must have in order to perform the duties of the position? (I.e. educational requirements, licenses, certification, work experience, training etc.)
B.A. or B.S. in business administration, procurement, operations or related field or five years internal experience with proven performance and product knowledge of assigned components. Technical, metallurgical or engineering background helpful.
Minimum five years professional experience applying broad knowledge of principals and practices of purchasing or materials management. Exposure to supply chain management, supplier quality systems and sourcing strategy.
Must have FMC or similar product knowledge. Must have a good understanding of machining and manufacturing processes and be familiar with steel products.
Must demonstrate strong negotiation skills, planning skills and strong interpersonal skills in order to interact with suppliers and co-workers in a team-based environment. Must have ability to handle multiple tasks, using ingenuity to solve problems, in a high volume environment under general supervision. PC skills including spreadsheet and word processing and MANMAN or similar mainframe experience.
RELATIONSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
Indicate positions that report directly to this position. Number of direct / indirect reports.
No direct supervisory responsibilities. May oversee clerical or buying resource staff in completion of projects.
Indicate internal/external contacts and purpose of contacts.
Internal contacts to obtain and furnish information. Develops and maintains relationships with established suppliers. Negotiates price, quality and delivery with suppliers.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY:
Indicate budget/revenue responsibility.
Directly responsible for up to $20 million in purchased components.
Explain the degree of supervision/guidance, procedures/ processes used, judgement, creativity, planning & resourcefulness needed to do the job.
Works under minimum supervision on assignments that are broad in nature and require originality and ingenuity. Receives objectives and guidelines for projects. Develops solutions to non-recurring problems by independently analyzing, interpreting and evaluating various precedents and data.
How are errors detected and what is possible impact of those errors?
Reviews the work of others for accuracy. Attention to detail is critical and possible errors may be serious involving excessive costs and/or hold up of production.

Office environment with daily exposure to the manufacturing floor. Some exposure to possible shop hazards including high noise and heavy machinery. Fast paced atmosphere with multiple priorities and constant change. Some travel for supplier contact.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Describe amount & frequency of physical requirements of the position (i.e. lifting, pushing, climbing)
Frequent sitting and operating a computer. Frequent walking and standing while visiting the shop.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

E/N Duties and Responsibilities
E Sources components or services from approved supplier list, evaluates RFQ's (Request for Quote), negotiates price, quality and delivery, selects supplier and places purchase orders while assuring compliance to Houston and Corporate Operating Procedures, Ethical Code of Conduct, etc.
E Expedites delivery of items by contacting vendors and shippers to ensure that merchandise, supplies and equipment are forwarded on specified shipping date.
E Works with product teams or other procurement staff to generate Request For Quotations (RFQ's) for new or modified parts. Corresponds with or interviews approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications and delivery information. Analyzes and
evaluates quotes to determine vendor selection. Maintains quotations for future reference.
E Develops and maintains supplier relationships on an on-going basis. Tracks and evaluates supplier performance. Manages supplier quality as it relates to their assigned items.
E Identifies and realizes cost savings opportunities to achieve yearly cost reduction targets.
E Identifies and qualifies new suppliers and/or subcontractors pursuant to local Operating Procedures.
E Assists in negotiating contracts with suppliers and/or subcontractors to minimize the liability of FMC. Contracts will address such issues as stocking or consignment programs, unit price, delivery, terms and conditions, etc. Maintains compliance with ESG guidelines.
N May assist Procurement Council as requested in the development and execution of sourcing strategies. May be assigned to consolidate forecast demand and leverage FMC's buying power. Executes stocking and delivery programs.
E Assists in make/buy evaluations and enters into the manufacturing system.
E Assists other staff members with procurement related activities as assigned.
