Job Description:
One of our clients, a Major E&P Company is seeking a Water Physical Chemist to join their Calgary, AB team.

JOB DIMENSIONS

Objectives: Identify and pursue new technologies that address the strategic objectives to improve both business drivers and reduce environmental impact for in-situ oil sands operations through the research and development of process water treatment. Focus will be on the impact of water chemistry on the operations for both mining and in-situ.

ACTIVITIES

Key Activities include
Understand the role that water chemistry play on: steam production for SAGD and on extraction for mining and based on this, identify existing technologies that could reduce the impact and propose alternative approaches
Understand the effect on the water chemistry on the various tailings streams behaviours (TT, MFT, FTT): define a strategy / test program to improve our understanding
Liaise with Headquarters and R&D Network to develop and approve research projects,
Foster R&D collaboration among JV partners, industry, government, research organisations and universities within Canada
Support the development of a comprehensive strategic research plan in areas of responsibility. .
Represent the company on program technical and steering committees, technology development meetings, conferences, and industry direction forums, as required.
Assist with contract and patent development

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Use, validate and modify the water chemistry model for mine operations
Assess and develop emerging water treatment options

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Minimum Masters Degree in Physical Chemistry or equivalent. PhD preferred.
Minimum 5-10 years experience with focus in water chemistry and treatment
Previous experience with water treatment for oil sands operation is preferred
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and project management skills
