Job Description:
Ocean Rig own and operate Leiv Eiriksson and Eirik Raude, two of the world's largest and most modern drilling rigs, built for ultra deepwater and extreme weather conditions. We have also taken delivery of four brand new 6th generation drillships all of which are operational. To continue with the growth of Ocean Rig, three further deepwater drillships have been ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea, these are expected in 2013. The company vision is to expand the operating base while maintaining a sole focus on ultra deepwater and harsh environment drilling, becoming the drilling contractor of choice for our customers, employees and shareholders in an incident free environment.

To assist with the newbuild drillships we are currently recruiting for Technical Superintendents.  These roles will initially be based in Korean shipyard and will then go on to base locations to be confirmed.

Reporting to the Rig Manager, the Technical Superintendant plays an integral part in managing the offshore maintenance and technical support from an onshore base operation.

Main Responsibilities:

Ensure that offshore maintenance is timely and professionally executed in accordance with the STAR maintenance system from the onshore base.
Assist as necessary with planning and execution of modifications, up-grading and yard stays.
Assist in planning budgets for repair and maintenance and perform technical inspection/Audits of the drilling units.
Verify that all modifications and repairs of the rig(s) are planned and executed in a safe manner without jeopardizing safety and health of personnel and safety of rig and environment.
Daily following-up of the technical support and activities for the rig(s) through the base organisations.
Offer assistance in plannign budgets for repair and maintenance of the rig(s).

Required Experience:

Applicants must have previous experience of working in a similar position and level of responsibility, as well as an in-depth working knowledge of Marine, Technical and Drilling systems.
A strong acquaintance with data based maintenance and spare part systems is essential.
Experience working on ships is preferred.
Must be acquainted with all applicable requirements for mobile rigs from Authorities and Class Society.
Candidates will have strong communication and people management skills and should be used to working in an analytical and systematic environment.
As a global organization and to ensure a safe working environment, it is essential that all applicants have a strong level of English, both written and oral.
Required Qualifications and Certificates: All certificates must be current and internationally recognized.

Relevant Engineering degree in Shipping/Machinery/Mechanical
Additional education as Chief Engineer is desirable
