Job Description:

Reporting to the Drilling Manager, the Senior Drilling Engineer will be responsible for preparation of all work necessary to fulfil the criteria within the well delivery process and well engineering projects, including well design, AFE's, legislative documentation and project close out reporting. In addition the post will provide technical and operational guidance and assistance to the drilling engineer.

Accountable for performing all duties with due regard to the health, safety of self, others and of the environment in which they are undertaken.
Ensure that well designs and construction procedures comply with SPD, Client and the relative legislative requirements.
Liaison with service companies, Client Production and Subsurface teams to ensure that objectives for well construction, well intervention and/or well repair are set and fully detailed in the procedures for each well.
Responsible for technical content of all reports, programmes and amendments for the construction, intervention and repair of a well.

Key Duties:

HSE:

Pursuit of personal and project HSE objectives and targets in line with project/regional HSE plan.
Preparation of statutory notifications to government and other parties
Oil spill/chemical discharge contingency and environmental impact evaluation of the well construction process where delegated.
Maintenance of drilling policies and procedures where assigned, and input to changes in the Well Engineering Management System.


People:

Managing own personal development and learning well engineering business by planning on the job training experiences and attendance at training courses.
Liaison and communications with rig, service contractors and other project discipline staff in planning and operations processes.


Operations:

Well planning work including: casing, cement, directional, bit selection, drilling fluids/well hydraulics, completion fluids, drill string, data acquisition, well suspension and well intervention design. SPD is using Landmark and the senior drilling engineer is expected to be a power user of the Landmark modules.
Prediction of fracture and pore pressure data for use in the well design.
Modelling of drilling load scenarios.
Liaison with Well Test and Completions Engineers on testing and completion requirements.
Write well planning pre-work and drilling procedures prior to well spud.
Day to day office based well operations support including technical analysis and solutions for well challenges.
Lost time and flat time reporting and analysis.
Capture lessons learnt and enter the relevant reports and actions taken in lesson learnt data base
Preparation of final well reports.
Well assessment.
Carrying out and reporting of internal/external audits.
Well engineering studies both internal and for external clients
Development of new/novel approaches to contracting and drilling wells.


Business:

Preparation of cost estimates and AFE's for planning and well construction/intervention/repair
Contract holder for drilling services contracts where assigned.


Qaulifications/Background:

Degree qualified
IWCF or WellCap Subsea Supervisors Well Control Certificate Holder
In-depth knowledge of UKCS legislative requirements, i.e. permitting etc.
Experience in well design, planning, programming and AFE development
Knowledge of industry best practices associated with drilling and completions
Understanding of casing design and well control techniques
Ability to use industry standard well engineering software packages beneficial (e.g. Landmark StressCheck, WellCat, WellPlan, Compass, etc)
