Weatherford Completion Systems R&D Engineering is expanding and we are looking for experienced creative design engineers. We build well completion tools, everything from shifting tools to HPHT packers and liner systems. If you would like to develop completely new downhole tools either starting with an existing piece of hardware or a blank piece of paper, a list of almost impossible specifications, a determination to challenge today's status quo, a willingness to build and validate your creation - - from idea to design to testing to the commercial roll out- - be a part of the product development team.
The Senior Design Engineer will develop new and improve existing mechanical products, systems and services. This includes defining requirements, generating concepts, preparing detailed designs and associated drawings/specifications as well as coordinating protoyping, laboratory and field testing. This requires a full knowledge of conventional aspects of mechanical engineering design as well as good judgment on the details of work, in making selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives and in making decisions about project management and scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
Technical expert on several different product categories
Ensures company Health and Safety practices are fully integrated in all activities
Ensures that Quality standards are fully integrated in all materials and activities
Develops conceptual drawings and layouts
Prepares calculations and design packages
Prepares or directs the preparation of detailed drawings including material specifications
Coordinates the manufacturing and assembly of prototypes
Assists in defining the appropriate quality control requirements
Develops content for assembly instructions, operators manuals and other technical documents
Conducts experimental and validation testing to confirm products meet design requirements
Coordinates field trials in coordination with product line groups
Performs failure analysis and as required, makes improvements in product design or operational guidelines to prevent future problems
Conducts development projects in accordance with the internal stage gate development process
Maintains complete design project files
Travels as required to support product sales, field testing and troubleshooting
Performs various other duties assigned by manager within the physical constraints of the job
May have responsibility for the technical direction of designers, drafters or junior engineers on specific projects.
Skills
BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum five years mechanical design experience with downhole tools.
Famillar with 3D CAD packages, preferably Pro Engineer.
Proven technical problem solving ability.
Creative thinker.
Mechanically-inclined, hands on and comfortable in both manufacturing and lab environments.
Microsoft Office Suite experience.
Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work in a team environment
Preferred Credentails and Experience
Oilfield experience with downhole tools or surface mechanical systems.
Familiarity with component manufacturing, quality control and assembly.
Professional Engineer
