Job Description:

SENIOR STAFF GEOLOGIST (16352)

Location: Houston, TX

Education: Minimum of a MSc in Geology

Experience:
Ten (10) years of industry related experience. The following experience is desirable:

•Worked as and/or been a member of a regional geologic team
•Project management skills
•Proficient in Landmark Workstations and GIS software
•Experience working salt basins and an understanding of salt tectonics
•Previous experience working the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico will be an advantage

Description:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of prospect generation and geologic support in Deep Water exploration with previous exposure working the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico an advantage.  They will have experience and expertise working basin scale regional projects and the ability to interpret and integrate seismic and geologic information to add support in maturating an exploration prospect inventory.  The geologist should also have a technical understanding of salt tectonics, multiple depositional systems and sequence stratigraphy.  This position is also responsible for managing third party contractors (i.e. geochemistry work) and Murphy's interactions with Universities and research consortia.

Job Duties Include:

•Supporting prospect generation by integrating basin scale seismic interpretation, salt tectonics and well logs information and generating isopach and reservoir fairway maps, and cross sections. Provide regional product maintenance ensuring they reflect all current data and understanding.
•Build and maintain historical exploration database including well look back analysis, lease sale trend results.  Help organize and maintain information databases such as well and paleo.
•Managing third party contract work and interactions with Universities and research consortia and ensuring transfer of said information to Murphy technical staff.
•Presentation Generation - Generate and present technical material to peers and management.

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
