AUTHORITY & RESPONSIBLITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED
TO:
• Responsible for providing full DP cover and watch keeping when the rig is in DP mode also to include:-
a) Monitor and provide the relevant information to the Rig Marine Management on rig DP equipment and DP operational issues,
b) In conjunction with Rig Marine Management prepare and assist in completion of relevant documentation and logs as required,
c) Ensure all DP equipment is fully functional and fully maintained as per the Company requirements.
• Must be fully committed to working safely and to accepting responsibility for the safety of fellow crew members.
• Must be fully committed to preventing damage to the environment and shall work in accordance with Stena Drilling's HS&E Policy and Procedures.
• Ensure full understanding of the STOP system and full participation in this system.
• Assist Supervisor in identifying jobs which may require a risk assessment.
• Participate along with Supervisor in risk assessments.
• DP Operator, Watchkeeper when rig in DP or in conventional mode. Responsible for the safe operation of the shift and in charge of the DP Operation unless relieved by the Barge Master. Responsible for safe navigation and conduct of the vessel as a
watchkeeper when not in DP.
• Monitor and control all rig movements whilst in DP and closely monitor rigs position and DP status paying particular attention to position maintenance, sensors, thruster response and performance and available power whilst drilling operations are being conducted.
• Ensure that the DP watch is conducted in accordance with IMCA recommendations and
in addition to any Company or client requirements as agreed and always bearing in mind the safety of the operation.
• Keep a close watch on the weather and make allowances for present and expected weather trends or deterioration. Inform Barge Master if conditions are likely to deteriorate sufficiently to abandon operations, differ from the forecast or that any unexpected weather may give reason for concern.
• Ensure DP system is operating correctly in accordance with IMCA Guidelines for Design and Operation of Dynamically Positioned Vessels. Ensure all DP trials and tests are conducted as laid down in the guidelines or as required by Stena Drilling or their clients.
• Keep logs as to the testing, trials, operation and any anomalies in the DP operation or equipment. Maintain marine operational and maintenance DP log book.
• Maintain shift handover book relating to the DP operation and any system or weather concerns which may affect the operation.
• Monitor other vessel movements within the area, inform Barge Master should they cause concern and take whatever action necessary to safeguard the rig personnel and structure before the Barge Master arrives in the Pilot House/Control Room.
• Ensure all other navigation equipment is operating correctly. Prepare Pilot House for sea as required by statute and also report all defects. Maintain Bridge /Control Room in seagoing condition and navigational readiness at all times.
• Supervise and conduct operations during DP/clients audits.
• Liaise with heads of department over running of the rig/routines especially areas which conflict between DP operations and rig operations.
• Assist with any administration which may be incurred by the rig, Company or client under the direction of the Barge Master.
• Responsible for the monitoring and upkeep of HPR transponders and taut wire systems. Ensure maintenance logs are completed and system batteries are kept fully charged.
• Assist with the maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment as directed by the Barge Master.
• Be responsible for the upkeep, up dating and correcting of all navigational charts and nautical publications. Ensure corrections are up to date and navigational warnings displayed. Ensure vessel has onboard all charts/publications for the voyage and working location.
• Carry out other duties as directed by the Barge Master.
• Comply with Permit to Work System.
• To complete Stena Drilling's Competence Assurance Scheme for the position within 12 months, on completion of probationary period.

Qualifications
Education / Training
• Class 1 or Class 2 (Deck) Certificate of Competency. (In some circumstances a Class 3 certificate may be acceptable if the Operator demonstrates a high level of knowledge and has suitable previous DP drilling experience),.
• DP Certificate.

Experience
• Have adequate knowledge and experience of drilling vessel/rig operations whilst in DP mode.
• Have previously served on a DP drilling vessel or have undergone supervised training up to the required standard.
• Have held a position as a DP Operator and has suitable experience.
• Possess a DP Operators log book demonstrating previous experience and a minimum of 1500 hours of which at least 300 are to have been a DP vessel engaged on drilling operations.
• (Hours associated to DP drilling operations may be waived or reduced if the Operator can demonstrate his/her knowledge of rigs, probably having served on drilling rigs in a different position in the Marine Department).
• Have experience of the type of DP system in use or attend a manufacturer's simulation course or have received sufficient onboard training to the satisfaction of the Barge Master and Company.
