PURPOSE

BHP Billiton Petroleum's Controllers team is responsible for accounting, external reporting, financial analysis, systems development, process improvement, and governance activities for the global Petroleum organization.  
The Finance Supervisor - Production & Revenue Accounting for GOM and International leads a team of 8 providing financial and control stewardship over the recognition, booking and reporting of revenue & revenue related OPEX within Petroleum.  Ensures timely delivery, completeness and accuracy of standardized reports for the Production Division.  The scope of this position will include management and oversight over core financial processes related to the reporting of revenue, revenue related OPEX & balance sheet stewardship.  
This position reports to the -Revenue and Royalty Accounting Manager.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Manage, lead, coach and develop the staff within the Production & Revenue Accounting team for GOM and International assets
    • Monitor performance of the team and identify areas of continual improvement and propose corrective action where necessary
    • Manage the interface with global business systems and associated processes
    • Liaise with Business Partner and respond to Production Division queries as required
    • Ensure adequate control and reporting mechanisms are implemented in order to maintain the integrity of the Production division revenue and revenue related OPEX.
    • Quality review of reported revenue & maintain strong links with marketing
    • Oversight for the reporting processes within the division
    • Quality assurance activities during closing cycle to validate
    • Facilitate the embedding of standard finance processes/systems as they relate to revenue, revenue related OPEX & balance sheet
    • Ensure the delivery of timely, complete and accurate standard reports within the Production Division
    • Collation and preparation of variance analysis with analytical commentary to explain the difference between actual and expected results
    • Interface with Trading & Marketing, Gas Marketing & BMAG, monitor 1SAP & PRA transactions to ensure accuracy of revenue reported
    • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and verification of revenue/royalty accruals and sales invoices for numerous revenue streams across global operations within the Production Division
    • Ensure inventory valuation and data integrity
    • Strong experience with MMS production & royalty requirements & legislation related to offshore units (participating area, commingling agreements, capital expenditure deductions, processing fees royalty relief etc)
    • Lead the review of account reconciliations, briefing papers, stewardship schedules & accounting matters as prepared by the Production & Revenue Accounting team for presentation to senior management
    • Preparation of ad-hoc presentation materials for senior management as required.
    • Lead the Production & Revenue Accounting team through external & internal audit requests for information ensuring thorough advance preparation
    • Ensure compliance with Global Petroleum accounting policy as it relates to the recognition of revenue, including PSA, Underlift/Overlift and deferred income
    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of Net Profit Interest calculations
    • Champion & drive process improvement initiatives to improve team efficiency & global standardization
    Sarbanes-Oxley Requirements for Production & Revenue Accounting team
    • Responsible for maintaining documentation to ensure full SOX certification of all financial controls and processes owned by the Production & Revenue Accounting team
    • Ensure appropriate documentation and ownership for all key controls
    • Oversee all remediation items related to SOX deficiencies and internal audit findings
  
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or Finance with a strong accounting representation
    • Master's degree in Business/Finance strongly preferred
    • CPA or equivalent a plus
    • Ten to fifteen years of professional experience in upstream O&G
    • Extensive experience in revenue accounting strongly preferred along with demonstrated experience in management accounting, reporting & overall financial stewardship & governance.
    • Demonstrated experience working in an SAP-based (or similar) general ledger, business warehouse and consolidation system environment
    • PRA experience a plus
    • Strong Excel modeling skills
    • Superior interpersonal skills to handle various customer and stakeholder groups with competing priorities
    • Solid interpersonal skills to effectively handle multiple organizational interfaces
    • Previous supervisory experience essential

    • Desire to adapt to and grow with the evolving needs of the Finance function
    • Track record of championing process improvements
