Responsibilities : The Corrosion and Materials Engineer (CME) is a key member of the Pressure Equipment Integrity (PEI) Department for the combined Motiva Norco Refinery and Shell Chemical Plant. This position is one of three CME's who provide corrosion and materials support to the site. The CME is part of a team of PEI Engineers and Inspectors who are responsible for leading the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management program at Norco.
The Corrosion & Materials Engineer contributes to pressure equipment integrity and safety by fostering corrosion awareness, developing monitoring and mitigation plans, and providing technical support on corrosion issues. Primary responsibilities for the position include: - Provide recommendations for corrosion control and material selection for equipment repairs, MOC's, and capital projects.
- Provide technical support to process engineers and PEI Inspectors for day-to-day problem solving activities.
- Provide technical support for major turnarounds.
- Participate in root cause analysis of pressure equipment related failures and ensure all leaks are sufficiently investigated to understand cause and develop long-term solutions.
- Conduct material failure analyses and coordinate formal analysis activities with Shell Projects & Technology.
- Maintain Corrosion Control Documents (CCD's) for Norco process units and ensure 5-year CCD revalidations are conducted and documented.
- Maintain up-to-date CCD variable lists and ensure good linkage with the Ensure Safe Production (ESP) work process.
- Monitor process unit corrosion variables to provide a second level assurance role to the operating units.
- Evaluate feed purchases for potential corrosion concerns.
- Participate in RBI implementation with Unit Inspectors and Analysts and develop optimized inspection strategies specific to the equipment and process conditions.
- Coordinate development and delivery of CCD and variable monitoring training materials for good knowledge transfer to Operations, Technology, and Inspection personnel.
- Participate in corrosion reviews and work scope risk challenge sessions for the development of detailed turnaround work scopes.
- Network with other Corrosion & Materials Engineers in Shell/Motiva and external professional organizations to share knowledge and experiences.
- Assist in the development and implementation of corporate and industry best practices.
- Review leak data trends and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Develop work processes and tools to help manage the overall corrosion control program.
 Desired Skills: Requirements :
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science.
- Minimum five (5) years of corrosion and materials experience, preferably in a petrochemical manufacturing facility.
- Proven equipment integrity and repair assessments experience.
- Proven experience with material selection and specification.
- Knowledge of petrochemical processes, equipment, and degradation mechanisms preferred.
- Proven experience with corrosion control design and management preferred.
- Proven experience with non-destructive testing preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with field inspection and detection/evaluation of material defects preferred.
