PURPOSE
To provide effective HSE coordination and representation of company activities on Exploration and Development Drilling campaigns, ensuring HSE risks are managed according to BHP Billiton Petroleum HSE Management System.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide specialist HSE advice and assistance to BHPB drilling superintendent and supervisor and rig supervisors.
• Liaise with the Drilling HSE team leader, Asset HSE staff to ensure effective use of best practice and consistency in approach to HSE activities.
• Promote a risk-based approach to HSE management within the Drilling Campaigns.
• Participate in and facilitate audits and reviews of both WWD and Rig Contractor HSE management systems and ensure implemented and fit for purpose.
• Support the implementation and achievement of campaign HSE objectives and performance measures during Drilling Campaigns.
• Lead initiatives to promote visible and pro-active management commitment and employee involvement in HSE activities.
• Review existing training plans and specific campaign training needs, provide training, as appropriate and/or facilitate visiting specialist trainers.
• Ensure there is an effective system for collecting, storing, analyzing, tracking and reporting HSE performance data (e.g. Incident report findings, Audit actions, Fpe proficient)
• Complete monthly HSE report for area of responsibility and monthly Safety meetings and statistics.
• Participate in risk management and HSE activities including risk assessments, audits, HSE Meetings, and forums including on-site activities.
• Plan and participate in HSE audits of Contractors.
AUTHORITY & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly to the HSE Manager- Worldwide Drilling.
As a senior role in the Worldwide Drilling HSE Team, the incumbent will work very closely with each of the Drilling Managers/Superintendents to ensure the delivery of effective HSE technical support in each of their respective areas.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
COMPETENCIES:
• Good leadership ability.
• Familiarity with drilling business.
• Comprehensive understanding of HSE issues in Drilling.
• Risk management and risk assessment skills.
• Technical proficiency and knowledge of Safety Case process and requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING:
• Engineering or Science Degree, preferably with hazard analysis content.
• Risk management courses.
EXPERIENCE:
• 10 years plus years HSE experience in oil and gas exploration and production with at least 3 years drilling specific experience.
• International experience in several campaign types using several rig types.
• Supervisory experience in drilling HSE function.
