Technical sales engineers combine technical knowledge with sales skills to provide advice and support on a range of products. Clients are usually technical staff from non-retail organizations, such as factories, public utility providers, local authorities and hospitals. The emphasis of the work varies depending on the level of technical knowledge needed to sell a particular product or service.
Technical sales engineers are a key point of contact for clients and provide both pre- and after-sales advice. They liaise regularly with other members of the sales team and colleagues from a range of departments, such as research, development, design, purchasing, production and quality, as well as senior company managers.
Work activities:
• Ensure projects are sold in a safe, responsible, and cost effective manner.
• Complete sales activities (accurate / timely / complete) through agreed customer reporting mechanisms.
• Manage the application engineering for Duraseal proposals.
• Manage all aspects of customer relations including, but not limited to; sales, pricing, invoicing, collections, business reviews, conflict resolution, strategic planning, new product functional requirements.
• Perform on-site review of product installations, when requested. Ensure customer satisfaction at all levels.
• Actively participate in the development and improvement of department practices and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with the requirements of Duraseal HSE procedures.
• Liaise and support other departments on a regular basis. Give assistance when required.
• Meet Sales and Profit targets.
• Participate in trade shows, as required. Prepare and present to customers as required.
• Prepare and publish technical articles related to systems solutions and case histories.
• Develop relationships with internal and external clients and suppliers.
• 'Cold-call' new clients who might benefit from company products or services and maximize client potential in designated regions;
• Develop long-term relationships with clients through managing and interpreting their requirements;
• Persuade clients that Duraseal products best satisfies their needs in terms of quality, price and delivery;
• Negotiate contract terms and conditions to meet both client and company needs;
• Prepare client quotations and administering client accounts;
• Provide pre-sales technical assistance and product education, and after-sales support services;
• Analyze costs and sales;
• Prepare reports for head office;
• Meet sales targets and coordinating sales projects;
• Support marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences and other marketing events;
• Make technical presentations and demonstrating how a product meets client needs;
• Liaise with other members of the sales team and other technical experts;
• Help in the design of custom-made products;
• Provide training and produce support material as required.
