The Opportunity
Sr. Manufacturing Engineer - Non - CNC - (Baytown & Channelview, TX)
Position is responsible for key projects assigned in the capacity of a project manager, and is also responsible for manufacturing processes assigned. This includes the implementation of a Lean Production System (based on the Toyota Production System) with a focus on improving safety, quality, delivery, cost and people. This position is tasked with the support of budget development, capacity analysis, Capital optimization, continuous improvement activities, and development of future state value stream designs (with a focus on lean manufacturing principles). Another major area of responsibility is a close working relationship with design engineering to ensure 3P and Design for Manufacturability ideas are implemented in actual value streams and in future product developments. This position works with all functions / departments to assure smooth flow of information and effective improvement teams.
Essential Responsibilities
• Development, implementation, and ownership of assigned production processes. This includes standard work, time studies, workplace organization & visual management, and all aspects of the material & information flow.
• Recommend and justify new capital equipment and decisions on machines per operation.
• Work with management and teams to identify resource requirements and locations required in order to deliver results and improve manufacturing and operations costs (capacity & resource planning)
• Write work instructions (approved by quality engineer) to include traveler, drawing(s), outside subcontract processes or services, fixture and tooling selection.
• Interface with personnel and train as necessary.
• Focus on efficiencies - material flow, reduce set-up and cycle time.
• Work closely with Quality and Supply Chain as a cross-functional improvement team
• Direct Involvement with local manufacturing strategy
• Provide plant layouts and capacity planning
• Assist in the development of driving the formal process of "make vs. buy" activity
Qualifications/Requirements
• A bachelor degree in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing or industrial) is required. An understanding of broader business needs which could be demonstrated by an advanced degree such as an MBA is preferred. Must also have formal training in Lean Manufacturing (preferably the Toyota production system), and project management.
• A minimum of seven years of engineering experience in manufacturing environment.
• Experience implementing and leading continuous improvement projects as well as a clear understanding of how to foster a continuous improvement culture.
• Multiple, quantifiable instances of successfully implementing new management tools (as exemplified by the "Toyota Production System", or equivalent) to expand performance metrics.
• Thorough understanding of lean concepts and utilization of modern quality tools for problem solving and continuous improvement.
• Working experience with heavy metal - cutting, machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly preferred.
• Experience in a change agent role, leading and working with teams to implement transformational change.
Travel
