Job Description:

Provides effective quantitative methods and techniques in the characterization, analysis, and modeling of reservoirs and apply in specific areas of Marathon's operations and business focus. Keeps informed on, and evaluates the latest technological trends, advancements and innovations in reservoir description and management to help provide operating organizations with technical services and information in those areas where technology is rapidly developing. The primary focus is on unconventional hydrocarbon exploration and production.

  • Job responsibilities include design, execution and interpretation of experimental studies and measurements of rock properties such as permeability, porosity, resistivity, relative permeability, rock mechanics, and acoustics or other novel characteristics.
  • Apply theoretical, experimental and other techniques appropriate to reservoir description and management to improve the Company's oil production and recovery. Reports project results to appropriate personnel.
  • Integrates within: Seismic Petrophysics - contribute to petroelastic modeling for 4-D reservoir description; Reservoir Petrophysics - quantitative reservoir description in complex lithologies, characterize unconventional resources, and develop/improve techniques for formation evaluation from cores and cuttings; and Geomechanical modeling - log-derived mechanical properties, formation testing, and core measurements.

MS or PhD in engineering or physics with minimum 12 years industry experience in experimental petrophysics or related fields of petroleum technology studying problems related to physical properties of rocks. Provide reservoir description from borehole measurements and relate with lab results. Knowledge or development of a broad-based understanding of other subsurface petroleum technologies is expected. Good communication skills are required as is the ability to work within a team environment.
