Department: Drilling & Workover
Report to: Wellsite Supervisor
Main Job Function:
To operate and monitor all drilling systems and equipment. Supervise all drill crew work activities and complete appropriate drilling documents to the satisfaction of the client, Company management and in compliance with applicable policies and regulations. To maintain the cost efficiency of the operations through proper planning and organization of activities under his control.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Organize and supervise drilling crews. Provide technical direction and control over the drilling crews. Monitor operations. Recommend means to improve performance and cost reduction. Perform personnel evaluations as required by the Company and provide training recommendations for his people to enhance their knowledge and skills. Understand that he is the first line of defence in securing the well against fluids/gas influx, and act accordingly
This will include but not be limited to the following specific functions:
Ensure the well is always under control. Will take immediate action in securing a flowing well to keep any influx to the absolute minimum.
Manage and direct the daily activities of the rig crew in accordance with client goals and within Company guidelines and policy.
Maintain drilling parameters per client requirements and within Company guidelines and policy.
Operates the drilling unit in accordance with safe and acceptable practices within Company guidelines and policy.
Conducts pre-tour meetings with rig crews to communicate daily objectives, special instructions, safety precautions and training activities as required.
Attend approved well control schools. Maintain appropriate well control certification and operate the drilling unit in accordance with safe well control practices and in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
Know and be able to perform procedures for circulating kick out in accordance with Company procedures.
Ensure that PTW system is used correctly.
Operate in such a manner which results in achieving the operating plan and objectives, including but not limited to safety, downtime, client drilling curve, rig budget, manpower turnover, and rig appearance.
Eliminate any waste and establish a cost-conscious planning effort within area of responsibility.
Ensure that all rig equipment within area of responsibility is maintained in accordance with the Company's Preventive Maintenance Program.
Be knowledgeable of all Company safety policies and procedures that pertain to your area of responsibility, including fire fighting, emergency equipment, life-saving equipment, and emergency response.
Actively lead and participate in safety discussions, safety drills, and inspections.
Report all incidents or injuries to self or crew members.
Pre-plan operational needs, organize equipment and supplies, conduct testing of critical equipment/systems as required, pre-inspect safety related issues and areas of operations.
Encourage, motivate, and if necessary, direct personnel to complete training courses required for their position and for future advancement.
- Relevant degree
- Current IWCF Well Control Certificate - Driller Level
- A few years experience in a Driller role in cyber-chair and with top drive
- A few years experience on drilling rigs as a member of the drilling crew in various positions working up to Driller
- Fluent English (written and verbal) and Russian / Turkmen would be advantageous
- Effective communication skills
- Good computer skills
