Major Operator seeking Mechanical Integrity Engineer/Mechanical Fitness for Service Engineer.

Location: Houston, TX
Duration: 12+ Months
Type: Contract

Requirements for Position:

- BSc (or higher) in mechanical, metallurgical, welding or corrosion engineering.
- Significant professional experience in FFS discipline with sound background in engineering, as well as knowledge in the field of metallurgy, equipment design, and equipment degradation modes, particularly high temperature, low temperature, vibration, creep, fatigue and brittle fracture.

The vision and goals the individual are:  

To be a service provider of first choice with a clear added value for metallurgy, fitness for service (FFS) and fabrication engineering services. These services can include: welding consultancy, remaining equipment life prediction, stress analysis of new or existing equipment, fitness for service evaluations, finite element analysis in support of stress analysis, failure diagnosis.

Accountabilities

- integrity assessment of materials from in-service equipment
- performing remaining life assessments for equipment in high temperature service for example using Omega methodology.FFS evaluations using API 579 as technical basis
- performing stress analyses (thermal and mechanical) using stress analysis software including FEA
- providing assistance in the implementation of RBI in process units
- consulting with the customer to provide trouble shooting and technical support related to equipment integrity management
- providing technical support to major projects to ensure sustained fitness for service
- developing and maintaining Best Practice Guides and standards in the materials area, and supporting documents for corrosion, equipment integrity, and inspection issues in the areas of fitness for service, design and welding
- developing/managing implementation plans and knowledge transfer to locations (presentation or training  packages or corrosion control documents)
- guidance to technology development, and deployment
- -technical support to customers on strategies for materials selection for new and in-service equipment using understanding of various damage mechanisms, FFS considerations and risk assessment
- failure analysis, diagnosis, and mitigation for in-service components, determining root cause of failure and recommendations for mitigation

Additional technical experience desired:

Substantial field experience in a downstream or upstream facility or on a major project.  
-              Proficiency in ASME design codes, and API inspection codes and standards.
-              Knowledgeable of API 579, PREFIS and OMEGA desirable.
-              Experience in using FEA programs such as ABAQUS/ANSYS/MARC, Compress and Caesar II desirable. Ability to work easily with all levels of inspectors, technicians, engineers and managers within the MMI technical community.
-              Fully acquainted with Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
