Job Description:
|
BP Exploration Alaska, Inc. (BPXA) - Operates four major production areas on the north coast of Alaska (known as the North Slope) which account for the majority of the gross oil and gas production in Alaska. The production volumes associated with the operations are over 560,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), over 9 billion cubic feet of gas per day and over 1 million barrels of water per day (BWPD). There is a significant amount of infrastructure required to support this production, which includes over 1,700 miles of pipelines, 15 production processing facilities, 1,700 wells, plus non-production facilities such as a power generation plant, water treating facilities, disposal facilities and living quarters. Associated with the production facilities are 3,500 pressure vessels and 2,200 tanks that require inspection and maintenance in accordance with BP, state and federal policies and regulations.
The economic life of Greater Prudhoe Bay (GPB) and the other operating areas is directly linked to the safe operation of major process facilities and delivery infrastructure. BP is committed to protecting the personnel who work in these operations and the Alaska environment, so it is critical that it maintains a world class Corrosion, Inspection and Chemical (CIC) program to support its corporate goals and meet the regulatory compliance requirements for these operations. The appropriate level of corrosion management is necessary to minimize operating and maintenance expense and maximize recoverable reserves through the existing infrastructure.
The Corrosion, Inspection, & Chemical (CIC) group provides an integrated corrosion management service to all of BPXA's operating facilities on the North Slope. Key features of the program are the integration of the chemical application, non-destructive examination (NDE), and corrosion monitoring programs into a coordinated whole which manages the long-term fitness for service (FFS) of equipment to the end of field operating life. The program services all of BPXA's operating assets on the North Slope and delivers the following on an annual basis:
Corrosion inhibitor program, utilizing approximately 3 million gallons of inhibitor;
A non-destructive examination program of over 100,000 internal and external inspection piping locations;
Inspection and non-destructive examination of over 900 state registered pressure vessels and over 300 registered storage tanks;
Corrosion monitoring program of approximately 10,000 weight-loss coupons;
Approximately 100 active electrical resistance (ER) probe locations;
Issuance of and tracking recommendations for repairs, alterations and replacement of non-compliant equipment.
The CIC Group is one of the largest corrosion management organizations within BP's upstream segment. The company staff consists of approximately 40 engineers and specialists, and the contract supporting staff is in excess of 150 personnel during peak work loads. Overall direct operating and maintenance budget exceeds $70 million per annum with additional budgets to support repair activities.
The CIC group has a strong performance management culture and approach with the current program's performance being reviewed on a weekly basis internally, with regular monthly and quarterly review provided externally.
The CIC Site Specialist will be based on the North Slope reporting to the Corrosion, Inspection and Chemicals - Strategy & Planning (CIC-S&P) team in Anchorage.
