Responsibilities :
The Advanced Process Control specialist is the site position responsible for APC performance and progressing the general control system performance for the site. The position provides control systems support to the Control System Engineers, Instrument Inspectors, P&T Engineers, and Project personnel in the implementation and support of control system applications. The APC specialist has functional skills in control systems applications (Base Layer and APC), associated hardware, process operation and control theory, and control interfaces that impact site profitability.
Expectations: • High level of base layer and advanced process control uptime and utilization • Effective communication to key stakeholders regarding the operating objectives of control systems. • Consistent monitoring of existing applications. • Respond promptly to questions and concerns from stakeholders regarding all control applications including but not limited to; Administration, Production, Process Engineering, and Business Planning.
• Communicate status of control systems, including uptime statistics, major accomplishments, and significant constraints to stakeholders. This includes monthly reporting of BIP tactics, and key metrics into G-Metrex. • Provide support and mentoring of control system engineers in their daily activities. This would include base layer and multivariable control systems to ensure they have a working knowledge of control.
• Responsible for developing a strong working relationship with CSE's, working through them to maintain area support structure and ensuring their growth and development. At times this may include assisting the control engineers in completing activities. • Responsible for training new Board Operators on the DCS and Advanced Control applications for job certification. • Works with operating departments to ensure that plant operators, production specialists, production team leaders, and process engineers understand the function, capabilities and limitations of the control systems, especially APC. • Implement new control applications which could be either base layer or multivariable applications. • Reviewing and providing control solutions for new projects. This would also include tuning and remodeling of existing multivariable controllers. • Provide support for software and hardware updates of control system applications. The applications may range from the DCS, PCTP Tools, to multivariable controller servers. • Responsible for site APC performance.  Desired Skills: Requirements : • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer. • Must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering. • A minimum of five (5) years of refining and or manufacturing experience specifically supporting process automation and control technology; ten (10) years experience preferred. • Must be self-motivated and work effectively with minimum supervision • Experience with TDC 2000, TDC 3000 and Experion systems & DMCPlus multivariable control strongly desired. • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members with clear and effective communications preferred.
