Job Description:
Position Summary

The Hydraulic Technician performs hydraulic component and system maintenance and repairs, ensuring the rig hydraulic equipment performs to high operational and safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities

Hydraulics

    • Performs assigned hydraulic system maintenance to ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and within manufacturer's specifications.
    • Inspects hydraulic components for worn and defective parts; repairs or makes recommendations for correction of deficiencies found.
    • Installs test instruments as needed and performs functional testing of hydraulic systems following maintenance and repairs to ensure proper operation.
    • Performs hydraulic component calibration, alignments, and adjustments in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
    • Maintains records of hydraulic maintenance performed and reviews maintenance history for indications of required system improvements; makes recommendations to improve hydraulic system efficiency and performance.

General Maintenance

    • Evaluates equipment performance and monitors use; determines and interprets capacities and performance data and selects equipment to be used for maximum efficiency and reliability.
    • Inspects, services, troubleshoots, and repairs equipment in hazardous areas.
    • Performs testing and changing of protective equipment settings.
    • Configures, modifies, and tests equipment; reads and interprets prints, schematics, isometric diagrams, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
    • Uses technical manuals and reference sources to find information regarding parts, repairs, replacements, operational conditions and procedures, and repair procedures.
    • Coordinates and implements drills and periodic testing of equipment as required.
    • Calibrates, maintains, and repairs test equipment and tools.
    • Conducts and documents inventory of tools and parts, ensuring that they are available for work assignments and in good operational condition; requisitions additional parts and supplies to maintain adequate inventory and ensures rotation of spare parts.
    • Keeps records of planned and preventative maintenance, and of scheduled manufacturer recommended test results for hydraulic equipment.
    • Performs all preventative maintenance according to manufacturer's specifications.
    • Maintains records of readings and tests.
    • Ensures compliance with all provisions of applicable regulatory bodies, including National Electric Code, Fire Prevention Code, United States Coast Guard, Minerals Management Service, and other local regulatory bodies.
    • Ensures hydraulic equipment inventory is maintained, organized, and labeled for easy access to eliminate operational failures and downtime.

Safety

    • Participates in the Safety Training Observation Program (S.T.O.P) and in the weekly and pre-tour safety meetings.
    • Develops and implements Job Safety Analyses.
    • Participates in safety and job-specific training programs.
    • Ensures any unsafe conditions are immediately reported; takes appropriate temporary action to prevent accidents until he or she can fully correct the unsafe condition.
    • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
    • Performs all duties in accordance with the Permit to Work System.

Other

    • Acts as a member of the technical team in the event of a fire or other emergency; participates in meetings and drills as a member of an emergency team.
    • Maintains updated knowledge of hydraulic systems and of safety requirements and regulations concerning the use and maintenance of hydraulic equipment.
    • Performs all other duties and special projects as requested by management.

Qualifications

Education:

    • High school diploma or educational equivalent is required.
    • Associate's degree in electronic technology or related educational equivalent from an accredited technical school, trade school, or institute is desirable.

Professional Experience:

Skills - Technical:

    • Must have 1-3 years of experience as an electronic technician, as well as offshore experience.
    • Expertise reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings.
    • Experience with both digital and analog electronic systems is required.

Skills - Communication:

    • Bi-lingual is preferred (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese)
    • Verbal communication skills necessary.

Skills - People:

    • Ability to interact with individuals in a cross-cultural environment.
    • Team oriented.

Licenses, Certifications, Credentials, and Other Requirements:

    • Offshore survival and medical certificates as mandated by government regulations are required.
    • Certified in all required safety training programs, including but not limited to underwater safety, fire fighting, and helicopter underwater escape.
    • Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
