I am recruiting for 20 Ironworkers destined to work at our client's fabrication modular assembly yard in Edmonton, Alberta.
1. Approximate start date: April 1st, 2012 ( that means that all 20 need to be AAIT approved and qualified before April 1, 2012).
2. Base hourly wage: $38.51/hr
3. Job Conditions: they will work 10 hour days, 6 days a week: 8 hours per day with 2 hours of overtime (X5 days) and one day at 1.5X per week. The candidates are paid weekly.

5. Pay 6% vacation added weekly to each pay cheque
6. The candidates are able to take vacation time off and it will be granted but it will depend upon project demands and be up to the approval of their supervisor. It is not guaranteed. The time off will be unpaid.
7. Term of Contract: there is work for more than 2 years at the yard. The candidates will receive a contract for one year at which time it will be reviewed in time to resubmit their extensions of their work permit applications.
8. Possibility of being moved up to camp, but no guarantee. The candidates should be prepared to live and work in Edmonton for the long term.

AAIT REQUIREMENT: each candidate must possess a USA ironworker certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship certified by the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers in the United States of America. This certificate is recognized by AAIT in lieu of verifying the minimum work experience of hours and months required (for an ironworker it is a minimum of 9000 hours and 72 months of hands on and verifiable work experience).
Ironworker
Ironworkers fabricate, construct and join scaffolding, structural steel buildings, bridges, ornamental ironwork and pre-cast structures.
They erect structural steel components, reinforce steel, post tension tendons, install conveyors and robotic equipment, and sometimes perform reconstructive work on existing structures
Working conditions
Ironworker -Structural/Ornamental trades people generally work outdoors in teams or crews in remote locations as well as urban areas. Their work is physically strenuous and often dangerous. They often work at great heights and must rely on one another to use good judgment as well as safety equipment and procedures to reduce the risk of injury from falling or from falling objects. Adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow or high winds can shut down projects for days at a time.
Erection
Experience in structure erection
Experience in welding under applicable codes
Inspection of welds to applicable OA
Read Blueprints and specs and layout of work
Hand signaling
Experience in torque guns, Mag drills and grinders
Read load charts
Heavy Lift
Crane capacity knowledge
Able to read blueprints
Planning and erection of job at hand
Hand signals as per OSSA, HSE procedures
Mobilization and demobilization of cranes
Proper lifting techniques
