Job Description:
Purpose of the Role

The HSSE Manager will manage the health, safety, security, environment, and CSR performance of Addax Petroleum in Nigeria to meet company, industry, national and international standards of performance as appropriate.

    - Continuous implementation of Addax Petroleum HSSE corporate management system and its application to Nigeria operations including:

      o Development and implementation of country specific procedures
      o Development and implementation of country specific HSSE plan
      o Development and implementation of country specific Audit plan
      o Incident reporting, analysis and implementation of corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
      o Monitoring of results, comparing with plans and trend analysis of HSSE Key Performance Indicators

    - Create and promote a culture of HSSE awareness among all personnel
    - Recruit and develop the HSSE team including functions of HSE, Security, and CSR
    - Implementation of robust plans for emergency response and medical evacuation
    - Responsible for reviewing and monitoring updates of national & international standards and practices
    Objectives
    - Responsible for the development and implementation of the Addax Nigeria HSSE Plan, in line with the corporate HSSE Plan
    - Responsible for providing guidance to Addax Nigeria Senior managers to ensure that Operations are conducted as per company HSSE strategy
    - Establish controls in Project management to ensure that Asset Integrity is inherent in design specifications throughout entire the Project lifetime cycle
    - Provide Assurance to Addax Senior management that of HSSE MS implementation through regular audits

Functional skills

    - Implementation of HSSE plan and monitoring of results through established KPI's
    - Ability to lead and develop a diverse HSSE team and recruiting motivated and competent personnel
    - Implementation and adherence to industrial best practices, safety engineering standards and country regulations
    - Implementation of HSSE MS and continuous improvement verified by periodic Management Reviews and formal audits
    - Perform periodic site walk audits of field facilities with focus on Asset Integrity, Permit to Work procedures, Preventative Maintenance activities, and industry best practices

Behavioral skills

    - Promotion of HSSE through personal leadership and active participation
    - Team player and self motivated, capable of working in a team as well as independently, achieving set goals
    - Organized, priorities, detail oriented, efficient and ability to get things done in a timely manner
    - Diplomatic, but understanding the role of country HSSE manager
    - Analytical skills, able to spot trends amongst conflicting and incomplete data, proposing fit for purpose and cost-effective solutions
    - Excellent written and spoken technical English.

Education:

    - Recognized first degree in Safety Engineering or in other related Engineering with additional experience
    - Thorough understanding of QMS ISO 900, EMS ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000, and HSE Management Systems
    - Recognized training in Occupational Health, Safety, Security and Environmental subjects including:

      o Risk Assessment
      o Incident Response and Investigation
      o HSE Auditing
      o NEBOSH, IOSH or industry equivalent qualifications


Experience:

    - 15 to 20 years of relevant experience in managing HSSE in the Oil and Gas industry with at least 5 years of experience as a HSSE manager
    - Minimum 5 years experience in Western African countries, with ability to work in remote and hostile areas
    - Strong experience in managing contractors and service providers according to company HSSE MS
    - Experience in oil field operations with international oil companies
    - Exposure to and interfacing with regulatory bodies
    - Experienced in the assessment of Major Accident Hazards
    - Computer literate, including the full suite of MS Office
    - Experience with a wide variety of processes and machinery (onshore, offshore)

Location The job is located in Lagos, Nigeria with frequent travel to onshore and offshore installations
