POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the purchase of commodities that are assigned, which include purchase order entry into Discovery from the requisition or suggested order through receipt of order. Buyer will also be responsible for execution of orders and management of suppliers and commodities.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Analyze market conditions; keep abreast of trends; explore sources of supply; study new products; and research departments' requests for all products and commodities.
Requisition and Suggested order requirements are the responsibility of the buyer to process into Purchase Orders.
Follow up, expedite, and maintain all of the Purchase Orders.
Study quality of products; determine vendor from whom purchases will be made; place orders; negotiate and renew contracts; investigate complaints and secure adjustments; follow up on deliveries.
Maintain data and prepare reports using office automation software.
Pull prints and specifications; require the buyer to become familiar with Windchill.
MRP and suggested order requirements will require the buyer to research and become familiar with their commodities. Buyer should be able to identify when a requirement may not be accurate and work with various departments to correct any errors. Prepare computer input forms for processing of transaction data.
Buyer will be expected to reach cost savings goals that will be established based on their experience and commodities. Obtaining cost savings and avoiding cost increases will be a requirement of this position. Negotiation of price, delivery, and other purchase terms and conditions will be required.
Manage suppliers and commodities to insure quality product, on time deliveries and lowest cost. Buyer will work with suppliers to ensure accurate and timely communication on delivery dates and order quantities. Must work with suppliers on managing their supply chain to reduce lead time, carrying cost, and improve inventory turns.
Responsible for accurate information on delivery dates. Changes to schedule or forecast will require the buyer to move in, move out, or cancel purchase orders. This must be followed through with changes being documented in Discovery.
Solve discrepancies with suppliers, receiving, accounts payable, quality and engineering on non-conformance of documentation or parts. Discrepancies will be handled immediately and followed through by the buyer until there is a resolution and documents are corrected or quality parts are received.
Personally observe safety and security procedures and proper use of equipment and material. Actively promote safety process and report any safety issues to proper channels for action.
QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Proficient computer skills with knowledge of MS Office and/or company specific databases.
10-key by touch
Good oral and written communication and analytical skills.
Must be able to work well with stringent deadlines in a high stress environment.
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Some college coursework in a related field preferred.
1+ years of supply chain experience preferred.
