Compressed Work Schedule This position is eligible for Nexen's Compressed Work Schedule program (CWS). This program provides flexibility in work hours to assist employees in balancing their work and personal lives. CWS participants work eight hours and 40 minutes per day and earn two Fridays off per month, for a total of 24 days off annually.
Position Overview Nexen is the operator of over 300,000 gross acres of prospective shale gas lands in the Horn River, Cordova and Liard basins in Northeast British Columbia. This is a long term, world-class resource and we recently announced a Joint Venture arrangement with INPEX CORPORATION of Japan. INPEX is Japan's largest E&P company and will become a 40% partner in our Northeast BC shale gas assets. In anticipation of INPEX becoming Nexen's new Joint Venture partner, we are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Manager - Operated Joint Venture, Shale Gas to be the key interface on this major endeavour. Reporting to the Manager - Business & Commercial, Shale Gas, the major responsibility of this role is to closely work with Nexen's Joint Venture partner and internal stakeholders to ensure the proactive management of operations, development, opportunities and risks of the Joint Venture projects.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Work closely with the Joint Venture partner on Nexen's operated development & exploration projects and existing operations to fully represent Nexen's interests; Accountable for the oversight of all aspects of the Joint Venture and for gaining Joint Venture support and budget approvals; Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the Joint Venture partner to facilitate solutions to problems and to anticipate and identify any issues early, when they can be more easily addressed; Ensure Nexen management and other key contacts are updated and apprised of any issues or challenges together with recommendations to resolve; Act as the key contact point for communications between the Joint Venture partner and Shale Gas; Facilitate scheduling of partner meetings and develop agendas as stipulated within the Joint Venture agreements and to business requirements; Work with Nexen Legal and Asset Management personnel, negotiate, maintain and administer joint operating agreements; Participate in Joint Venture budget planning and project stage gate review coordination and prepare the partners for AFE and contract approval and subsequent administration; Collaborate with other members of the Shale Gas team to meet internal and external planning and project approval requirements.
Required Skills: Education/Experience
A degree in engineering, business or finance is preferred, ideally supplemented with an MBA; Minimum 15 years experience in an upstream oil and gas environment in various roles including engineering, operations, corporate planning and exposure to international Joint Venture environments; Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in both Japanese and English, and have a strong understanding of Japanese business culture; Experience with planning/budgeting and major capital approval processes and requirements; Proven technical, financial, economics and commercial acumen in understanding project and business plans; Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership, communication and negotiation skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to deliver effective presentations to a variety of audiences including executives.
