Our current asset mix is 40% Liquids and 60% dry gas from the most fertile and exciting plays in the US including the Bakken/Three Forks and the Eagle Ford Shale.
SM has the largest land position in the Eagle Ford per share of stock than any other publically traded company. We are seeking an Sr. Asset Team Development Geologist in our Houston Office for the Eagle Ford project in South Texas. This position is a member of a multi-disciplinary asset team charged with planning and executing SM Energy's operated Eagle Ford. Under limited supervision this individual handles geoscience assignments of broad scope and difficulty, coordinating efficient development of reserves of the assigned project area. Candidates must have the ability to communicate and function on a cross functional (multi-disciplinary) team.
This is an "operational" development geologist position that will be responsible for drilling several 100's of wells in the Eagle Ford program.
Candidates must be available and willing to maintain constant contact with drilling engineer and well site 24/7.
Responsibilities include:
Asset maturation, development planning, prospect generation, well targeting, and drill planning for the assigned team.
Planning, coordinating & QA/QC all wells in assigned area including generating pre-drill Geologic Prognosis, logging programs, hazard analysis, surveying, permitting, directional planning, economic evaluation, AFE processing.
Coordinate and oversee drill execution for the asset team including logging, evaluation, course corrections, landing the well, MWD & Mud Log planning/evaluation.
Analyze log data, correlating log tops, generate control points, updating mapping systems, performing Prizm log analysis as needed
Data Management: loading digital and interpreted data into Geographix
Support Asset Team Leader and Asset Team engineers including participation in reserve booking data collection & discussions, completion recommendations, SWD candidate evaluation, quarterly reviews with upper management, budget planning, special mapping projects as needed.
Requirements:
B.S. in Geology from accredited University in USA acceptable with more than 15 years operational geology experience.
M.S. in Geology from a accredited university in USA is highly preferred for candidates with less than < 15 years experience.
10 - 20+ years industry experience with oil & gas operators onshore North America.
North American shale experience is a plus.
Horizontal well planning & execution experience required.
While experience with Geographix is preferred, candidate must have experience with existing/modern geologic/geophysical interpretation tools similar to Geographix.
This position reports to an Asset Team Leader in our Houston, Texas office.
