Job Description:
One of our client's, a Major International Operator is seeking a Business Unit Controller to join their Calgary based team.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Finance and Control ensures the critical follow-up of all commercial activity. The main responsibilities of this group include:
Initiate and coordinate target setting, planning and follow-up processes
Challenge and support management in the Ambition to Action process and in business decisions
Oversee financial reporting and ensure quality in reporting and forecasting
Commercial quality control and independent assessment of business decisions

ACCOUNTABILITIES

    The Controller is part of the asset management team and will take on the main Finance and Control responsibilities outlined above towards the asset Business Unit. More specifically, the accountabilities will be to:
    Challenge and support the management team to ensure unbiased and high quality dynamic production and cost forecasts
    Understand key drivers in actual and forecasted production, operating and development costs on a proactive basis
    Advise and challenge on information and decision memos from the asset management team
    Participate in relevant commercial quality control and investment proposal analysis
    Provide input to controller assessments when necessary
    Liaise and work closely with Global Business Services Finance and Control
    Stewardship of the asset's risk register and follow-up on designated risk mitigation actions
    Ensure quality and proactively assess financial reporting within SAP and forecasted inputs into the Business Planning System (BPS) and other relevant tools
    Work with the Economic Analysis team to ensure alignment of assumptions between short term forecasts and longer term economic models
    Fulfil monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirement towards the Canadian Senior Leadership team and to other Business Units

QUALIFICATIONS

    Graduate studies in Business or an accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA)
    Minimum of 10 years experience in a finance role that is supporting an upstream oil and gas business.
    Oil sands and SAGD work experience from a financial perspective a strong asset
    Strong SAP knowledge, an asset
