• Responsible for cargo transfer operations.
• Responsible for making up the tow; dropping, spotting and switching barges at docks.
• Responsible for assisting the vessel and tow in making locks
• Responsible for standing lookout or riding the head of the tow as a lookout.
• Responsible for performing the various tasks necessary to carry out the above , such as making a coupling, operating winches and ratchets, and handling, splicing and throwing.
• Responsible for developing a complete knowledge of all heaters; troubleshoot barge problems; develop good leadership abilities; develop good training abilities.
• Responsible for developing complete knowledge of all barges; chipping and painting vessel and tow.
• Responsible for repairing flame screens, cleaning P/V valves, greasing winches, in accordance with the barge checklist distributed by the Barge Maintenance Department.
• Responsible for other equipment maintenance as needed.
• Responsible for cleaning or soughing the boat; cleaning quarters; cleaning the wheelhouse and galley; cleaning the head and companionways
• Responsible for any other cleaning chores as directed by the Master.
