  • May function as Discipline Project Supervising Engineer on medium to large projects, assuming responsibility for the work of the group. May plan, direct, and supervise the work of a major engineering unit or project requiring large scale expenditure of manpower and financial investment. Leads other Engineers and design personnel in technical excellence and growth in the Quality Improvement Process.
  • Provides technical consultations for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses. Performs reliability, availability, maintenance (RAM) and safety analyses. Ensures that all work produced is properly coordinated with the needs of the project. Keeps lead engineer appraised of the technical problems, staffing requirements, scope changes or other events which could affect project completion and/or project profitability. Conducts surveys, studies, site investigations.
  • Recommends and prepares technical papers. May serve as Technology Department representative during performance test runs. Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract.
  • Prepares material/equipment specifications and purchase requisitions; reviews supplier data; witnesses shop tests, assists with assessing supplier manufacturing capabilities.
  • Develops operation and maintenance plans; develops standard operating procedures; prepares O & M manuals and may conduct on-site training of personnel.
  • Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
  • Helps determine budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.
  • May assist Section Supervisors with other administrative and technical duties.


Job Requirements:
  • BS or MS in related field or applicable discipline, typically an engineering degree; or equivalent experience if allowed by law. Expert knowledge of applicable theories, practices, and accepted procedures. Typically minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; relevant professional registration preferred.
  • Recognized as a functional expert and thought leader within the department and broader organization. Anticipates complex internal and external business issues with impact on the organization and can recommend innovative program and/or program solutions. Contributes to strategic program development. Proficient with engineering software applications; Computer proficiency required; Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Accuracy and attention to detail important.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage priorities somewhat important. The ability to prepare and present complex program proposals and reports to senior level management and customers is critical. Ability to establish project estimates and oversight of project budgets. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential to effectively teach what they know to other employees.
  • Commitment to customer service and ability to guide department personnel in partnership with and during manager's absence is essential. Ability to maintain confidential information critical.
  • Generally characterized as a "Leader" or "Technical Specialist" with the ability to technically advise and guide the department program design and development. Leads complex and often cross-functional project teams.
  • Typically will regularly interface with departmental staff and upper management, and frequently with outside customers.
