Job Description:

Key responsibilities of this position include:
* Ensure that all proposed works to be carried out onboard the self-propelled vessel/transition pontoon/carriers which fall within the remit of Naval Architects are carried out to best industry and statutory standards in a safe and cost effective manner.
* Ensure that deliverables meet the specified level of quality and on schedule. The candidate's approach shall be design, construction and operation minded also showing creativity, flexibility and initiative.
* Confirmation of the positioning, stability and structural strength of the installation and transportation vessels for conducting the intended operations.
* To perform naval architecture activities on open-deck, high capacity vessels (in excess of 40,000 tons payload and 8,000m3/hr ballast capacity) involving loadout, transportation, heavy lift, module offloading, dredging, berthing operations, mooring analysis, installation procedures, load out procedures and inspection testing.
* Ensure vessel stability and hull bending moment/shear force criteria are not exceeded and that intended vessels are 'fit-for-purpose'.
* Perform review and approval of designs/specifications/procedures for marine systems in compliance with applicable Rules, Classifications and Standards.
* Review and approve motion analyses/deck strength/sea-fastenings/grillage and other proposed installation methods prepared by contractors/subcontractors.
* Participate and provide guidance in the integrated study/workshop with high capacity vessel specialists, transportation companies and MWS to identify the risks associated with logistics transport frequencies of prefabricated modules (total of 220) and complex ballasting operations for a tidal range of 8.1m at the MOF in Darwin.
* Optimization of shipping schedule and stowage plan to define the number of voyage and charter period of each recommended vessel.
* Ability to promote new approaches and solutions for changes in methods and procedures proposed by contractors and 3rd party consultant.
* To recommend and follow all quality assurance and safety factors/requirements applicable to the design of naval architecture.
* Interface with marine warranty surveyor, harbour master, vessel superintendents, ship owners and heavy transport contractor.
The following Qualifications and Experience are a requirement of this position:
* Bachelor or Master of Science in Naval architecture. (Essential),
* Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. (Desirable).
* Computer literacy for structural, hydrostatic and hydrodynamic calculations, document processing, spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of BARMOT, MOSES software would be an advantage.
* Experience with open-deck, high payload capacity semi submersible vessels for multi-modules transportation such as Fairstar's Fjord and STX's Rose1 & Rose2 would be an advantage.
* Proficient knowledge of relevant international design codes and class regulations.
* Recent relevant experience within the oil and gas industry (minimum 10 yrs). (Essential).
* · A good team worker is an essential requirement for the selected candidate.
* Candidate should be willing to work in Yokohama for the detailed engineering phase of the project.
* Candidate should be able to work in sub contractor's office, Fabrication yards or on site in a supervisory role.
* Candidate should demonstrate professional development by emanating a positive attitude and shares advice in a pleasant style.
