Job Description:

Responsibilities :

The position is for an experienced technologist/engineer with a track record in Polyethylene Technology,including manufacturing site experience and design. The position in Shell's Project and Technology Organization is in the Global Downstream Technology Services department. This business provides cost effective and efficient innovative technology solutions to help our business partners achieve top quartile performance. The main activities are technical advice,on-site assistance,process design work for revamps and new units,know how/experience transfer and Process and Catalyst Research & Development. We deliver these services on subjects primarily related to the Oil Products,Chemicals and Gas businesses,and to a client base which includes Shell companies,joint ventures and several non-Shell customers

  • As (Senior) Process Engineer - Polyethylene,you'll provide input and steer in developing capital projects from technology selection to basic design packages
  • This includes the critical review and evaluation of the various technologies and their integration in the overall project
  • This will involve extensive discussion with technology providers about risk analysis,technical specifications and other matters
  • You will act as guardian of the safe design of our installations
  • During commissioning and start-up you will provide assistance as required
  • You are proactively working on best practices,engineering guidelines and internal procedures,and maintaining internal and external networks to be informed of new developments in the field

  • Finally you will providing other services ,including leading process improvement studies ,performance optimization ,troubleshooting activities ,incident investigations ,economic evaluations ,technical audits and safety studies
  • In line with the Shell Polyethylene Technology Strategy,you'll develop knowledge and expertise in the appropriate technologies
  • This will require you to understand the business and manufacturing objectives and constraints ,and be able to develop relevant Polyethylene expertise such as gas-phase and slurry technologies
  • You'll identify,develop and support the implementation of standards,guidelines and successful practices
  • You'll coach and mentor junior technologists
  • You'll also contribute to the organisation and content of courses organised by the delivery group
  • Working in close cooperation with the Polyethylene team around the globe,you'll provide services to plants and projects in different parts of the world and develop your own personal global network,while exploiting existing networks and competences within the Shell organization.

Requirements :

  • With a degree in chemical engineering, you'll have significant experience in polyethylene technologies, manufacturing and/or process engineering
  • You bring a track record of delivering results on schedule and within budget
  • Your team working and communication skills will be first class, and you'll have the ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of technological change management, process engineering, operations and project delivery is vital, as is the desire to add value to this dynamic area of our business
  • You should be fluent in English with good communication and reporting skills
  • You must be prepared to undertake business visits to customer sites, vendor premises and engineering contractor offices
  • It is anticipated that the after successful start-up of a newly designed unit, you will take on a position in the operational organization, i.e. as designated start-up/unit manager, assistant unit manager or (team lead) technologist
  • Actual operational position will depend on incumbent interests, capabilities and experience.
