Port Captain
•This is a management position responsible to ensure vessels are crewed, operated and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations. It may involve travel to multiple locations with extended stays away from the homeport. This person will: implement standard procedures and guidelines for the operation of a safe and environmentally sound fleet; ensure all vessel personnel comply with regulatory training requirements; assist in the development and adherence of the operational budgets investigate vessel damage, product spills, and personal injuries; Ensure all appropriate authorized and company personnel are notified and that proper documentation is completed accurately; supervise licensed and unlicensed personnel, and crew management development. They will inspect vessels to ensure seaworthy condition and arrange for maintenance and repair activities to correct any deficiencies; arranges for coordination of assist tugs, pilots and crew care as necessary; provide technical expertise for specialized jobs in the field
•REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree from a Maritime Academy with an USCG License.
At least 10 years in the maritime industry may substitute for degree. Minimum 5 years as a sailing officer or academy graduate with 2 years sailing.
•Must have a strong maritime background with a thorough understanding of the day-to-day operations of vessels, their limits, their capabilities and both internal characteristics and external factors influencing them. Must also understand the individual roles, interactions and responsibilities of crew members manning the vessels.
•Ability to interpret, administer and insure compliance with government regulations related to vessel manning, construction, maintenance & repair, safety, training, navigation, work rules, emergency response, licensing and towing operations.
•Must have strong organizational and time management skills
