Job Description:
|
The Senior Electrical Engineer position provides engineering and technical support for the Company's fleet operations, new build programs, modification projects, shipyard refurbishment projects and marketing support. This support includes engineering analysis, design, and developing solutions for electrical systems including at least but not limited to drilling, marine, power, , control, instrumentation, communications and alarm systems. The Senior Electrical Engineer provides recommendations on new designs and enhancements to existing design specifications employing industry recognized best practices. This includes methods for optimization of existing and emerging equipment designs and materials used in the deepwater drilling industry. Professional report generation, understanding of Classification Rules, Industry Codes and Standards, IMO, coastal and flag state regulations applicable to offshore drilling vessels is required. Usually there are no direct reports as this is an individual contributor position, however, the incumbent may find themselves appointed to be the leader of an ad hoc team to solve a particular problem.
Experience
Minimum of 10 years in a similar role in a business of similar size and complexity.
Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications
• Practical experience in this job classification is required. Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university is required.
• Advanced degree desirable
• PE or other professional licenses is desirable.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform electrical and system analyses employing applicable industry and standard / regulatory rules arriving at practical engineering solutions
• Perform detailed system design review through the REA and Rig Mod processes
• Perform review of vendor bulletins crafting follow-up action plan
• Perform technical gap analysis in support of marketing
• Perform Class society submittal and resolve all electrical open comments
• Draft equipment testing procedures and participate in product FAT
• Draft systems and equipment specifications
• Draft equipment repair procedures
• Draft equipment-specific preventive maintenance job plans
• Draft electrical construction standards
• Provide technical solutions for the operations and asset management teams execution.
• Attend rig surveys / audits and onsite system/rig commissioning as required
• Develop proficiency in application of marine regulatory society rules: Classification Society (i.e. ABS, DNV, BV, and Lloyds), IMO MODU Code, and flag state in reference to rig electrical power and control systems
• Staying up-to-date on evolving technologies and industry standards applicable to the drilling industry
Minimum Requirements for this position
• Familiarity with the following standards is required: IEEE, IEC, NEC, NEMA, UL Standards
• Must be computer literate and competent in the use of MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Project, and have a working knowledge in AutoCAD
• PLC programming knowledge is a plus.
• Self-motivated and ability to work with little supervision.
• Proficient analytical and quantitative skills.
• Proficient problem solving skills.
• Proficient in drafting concise technical report
• Travel to domestic and foreign locations both on and offshore is required
