Our client is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Technical Sales.

SCOPE

Our client has created a new opportunity for a Technology Manager in the Hydroprocessing and Heavy Oil Upgrading Project Technology Group within their Process Technology and Equipment business unit. This role is part of a team of Hydroprocessing Technology Managers who lead and coordinate technical sales support for sales of new and revamped hydrocracking, hydrotreating and heavy oil processing units. The Technology Manager is recognized as a leader in the technology field combining a high level and broad scope of technical capabilities and knowledge with business focus and a global perspective.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

    • Writing/coordinating technical proposals for single and multi-unit complexes for both revamps and new units.
    • Working with Sales to develop technical proposals, presentations, initial and subsequent drafts of the engineering and guarantee agreements, ITB review, technical support, guarantee calculation and preliminary pricing sheets.
    • Taking the lead role at customer meetings for bid clarifications, technology updates, technical proposal review and general positioning of respective technologies.
    • Facilitating the transition of projects from sales to engineering through the process design phase.
    • Developing technically innovative solutions to sales opportunities both for revamp & new unit situations.
    • Advising Sales how to respond to client requests with less work-intensive products that meet customer requirements through the various stages of the sales process.
    • Identifying pull-through opportunities from projects being developed. Ensuring equipment sales are positioned effectively during the preliminary proposal stage.
    • Providing feedback to appropriate parties at client regarding process design and sales opportunities.
    • Providing design teams with relevant project history and assisting with customer relationships.
    • Providing input to the client's Customer Contact Management (CCM) sales tool on available customer information covering process unit details, contacts, competitive information and sales strategies.
    • Meeting commitments of quality and schedule for all assignments.
    • Advising Technology Center managers of all sales support requirements involving engineering support.
    • Seeking prioritization of projects from management when unable to meet all commitments.
    • Interacting directly with hydroprocessing alliance partner to develop sales strategy.
    • Leveraging best practice across the Projects Technology Group using potential synergies to develop and improve tools for increased efficiency of the sales support process.
    • Tailoring the client's technical offering to optimize the economics of customers' potential projects and positively differentiate client's technical offering.
    • Coordinating with both external customers and internal client groups and disciplines including Sales, Development, Operating Technical Services and other engineering disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS

    • BS degree in chemical engineering.
    • 8 - 12 years experience in process technology (development, sales, design and service).
    • Ability to travel 25% both national and international.
    • Close coordination with both external customers and a number of internal client groups and disciplines including Sales, Development, Operating Technical Services and other engineering disciplines.
    • Experience in hydroprocessing.
    • Experience in the Gas Processing and Industrial Gas Industries.
    • Proven track record in strategy formulation and product/business positioning skills
    • Deep knowledge of the sales function and the best practices around target account management and planning.
    • Proven ability to lead and motivate.
    • Solid commercial development and marketing expertise in a business to business distribution centric environment.
    • Broad strategic analysis skill set complimented with a detail orientation.
    • Proven ability to build and maintain business relationships.
    • Ability to identify marketing opportunities and trends.
    • Strong experience with the implementation of growth, new business development and marketing initiatives that lead to stronger market penetration.
    • Proven ability to successfully direct business opportunities, including market assessment, strategic planning, objective setting and implementation.
    • Track record of establishing short and long term market and product growth goals, then executing operating plans to achieve them.
    • Proven track record of leading projects and teams that successfully achieve milestones and complete deliverables.
