Job Description:
Purpose/Summary:

Reporting to the Subsurface Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the co-ordination of geophysical activities within the Chissonga Development Team, Angola Block 16. The integrated asset-based team is tasked to deliver our operated deepwater development to first oil in 2014.


1. Key responsibilities

To help facilitate the aggressive development schedule, the Lead Geophysicist will be responsible for the co-ordination, planning, budgeting and execution of critical Geophysical activities for the team.


Responsibilities will include the planning, acquisition and processing of a new, high-density seismic dataset, re-processing and inversion of existing seismic datasets, the planning and execution of VSP activities for upcoming appraisal wells, detailed planning for 4D time lapse and future monitor surveys, and liaison with the associated Block 16 exploration team for the planning and execution of an additional, adjacent seismic survey within the Lease. In addition the candidate is expected to work closely with seismic interpreters in the assessment of AVO and rock physics aspects of Chissonga reservoirs. The Lead Geophysicist will also work in close collaboration with specialist Geophysics Groups within Maersk Oil.


The Lead Geophysicist will also be required to provide insight and guidance on geophysical volumes for reservoir characterization and the conditioning of a rigorous reservoir modelling campaign for the objectives of development planning, optimisation and reserves estimation.

2. Position specifications

Required Experience:
The successful candidate will possess an expert background of seismic acquisition and strong expertise in processing techniques, including VSPs and depth imaging. The ability to co-ordinate geophysical operations for the asset-based team is considered to be a crucial component of the role. The right candidate for the position is an enthusiastic and strong team player with good communication skills and the ability to leverage the expertise of specialist Geophysics groups within the company.


The successful candidate should also have a sound background in seismic interpretation and reservoir characterisation (including AVO/AVA, inversion, rock physics and depth conversion), in order to guide and align the strong seismic interpretation team with the necessary seismic volumes to meet clearly defined business objectives and timelines. The ability to mentor junior members of the team in geophysical principles would be of strong benefit to the team.
