Major Areas of Responsibility Include:
The Senior DPO is the primary DP watchkeeper and the Master's representative on the bridge/control station in his abscence. Apart from navigational duties he should also ensure the safe and efficient operation of the DP system.
Maintain various records, reports and industry publications regarding the DP operation, and should ensure the suitable distribution of that information to all relevant personnel.
Working knowledge of the drill floor operations, to ensure the smooth conduct of the integrated DP drilling operations.
Minimum Education and Skill Requirements:
Minimum education of a specialized or technical knowledge requiring formal training beyond high school is required. Minimum of a Second Mates license.
Minimum of 3-5 years DP experience in the maritime industry with progressively responsible experience is required. Cold start of the DP equipment and input of all initialization data into the DP system experience is required.
Communication skills require the ability to provide explanation of very complex or technical matters to people with little or no background in the area under discussion.
Writing skills require the ability to write text designed to communicate technocal information.
Interpersonal skills require the ability to deal with discontented, argumentative , and emotional crew members in irrational or illogical personal situations.
Emergency situations: Senior DPO/Second Mate holds a position on the Ship's Emergency Station Bill. This may consist of performing requirements of Emergency Station Bill for both drills and actual emergencies to include fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, spill response and as directed.
Direct, track and maintain all DP equipment maintenance procedures.
Ensure Control Room Operations are in compliance with environmental protection requirements as specified by company policies and regulatory bodies.
Ensure that the Compny HSE policies and other programs are communicated to and understood by all rig personnel.
Play an active part in the weekly meetings and all other Company safety management systems.
Ensure new arrivals receive a full safety briefing and induction on the rig.
Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig.
Assist the Master in all emergency situations and emergency protection responses.
Assist the Master in coordinating weekly emergency drills along with monitoring and evaluation of the deck crew response.
Assist in reviewing and updating the vessel's safety case in consultation with vessel and shore-based management.
