Job Description:
The Subsurface function provides BP's Exploration, Development and Production divisions with the highest quality expert personnel for technical projects, and promotes and oversees the development and application of new technologies. The Imaging Flagship in Subsurface ensures that the development, deployment and application of innovative technology delivers industry-leading images of the sub-surface through collaboration with the asset teams. The Reservoir Geophysics R&D Specialist will contribute to R&D and specialist technical services covering the process of using seismic attributes, calibrated to rock properties data, which are then integrated with other sources of information to describe and characterise the reservoir.

Key accountabilities

Design and code new approaches using statistical methods to integrate seismic data into reservoir evaluation

Develop workflows which span from input data analysis to geo-modeling products

Integrate well data, geologic, seismic and production data into these workflows

Demonstrate the business value of new approaches by applying them to asset data

Assist in the deployment and development of training classes which cover these new technologies

Position Requirements
PhD in Geoscience or related discipline

PhD thesis topic which directly relates to this technology area, or PhD in Geosciences and 5 years minimum experience working in the field of geostatistics and seismic inversion

Up-to-date knowledge of probabilistic seismic inversion approaches and geostatistics

Understanding of Risk/Uncertainty Analysis and application to reservoir characterisation problems

Implement ideas via computer coding with support from high end programming staff.

Other essential skills and knowledge Understanding of 3D and 4D seismic. Application of seismic technology to prospect identification and field development.

Desirable criteria and qualifications

Working knowledge of fundamentals of seismic processing and interpretation.

Experience with the Landmark software suite

Experience with Hampson-Russell AVO/Emerge/Strata, Jason software packages

A strong commitment to Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)
