PURPOSE

BHP Billiton Petroleum (Americas), Inc.'s mission is to create shareholder value through the discovery, acquisition, development and production of petroleum natural resources.  This position will provide subsea equipment direction & coordination for the company-operated Brownfield development projects in deepwater Gulf of Mexico, ensuring HSE, Regulatory, Quality, Risk Management, and other associated programs are applied according to BHPB Corporate and Petroleum standards, policies and practices. The Subsea Engineer will direct and support  FEED and detail design, fabrication & testing, and will support installation efforts for subsea equipment packages as directed by the Subsea Subsea Lead.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

    • Plan, coordinate, and execute specific Brownfield subsea equipment packages as directed by the Shenzi Subsea Delivery Lead to ensure the timely achievement of Project plans and objectives within an Integrated Project Team (IPT) organization. Execution includes all aspects from front-end engineering through installation and commissioning.
    • Responsible for producing all package related technical deliverables.
    • Ensure effective implementation of relevant BHP Petroleum policies and practices and applicable codes, recommended practices, & regulations  
    • Promote a risk-based approach to project design & execution, including participation in & support of hazard assessments, audits, and project HSE Cases.
    • Support the development of a Quality philosophy & ensure application of QA/QC processes for the Shenzi Project that will ensure that design and equipment meet BHPB specifications and applicable industry standards.
    • Produce all package related technical documentation for procurement & contracting support
    • Assist in the evaluation of package design, fabrication, testing, and installation contracts as directed by Subsea Delivery Lead.
    • Interface with other disciplines to ensure design continuity.
    • Provide project budgeting & scheduling assistance and information to the Shenzi Subsea Equipment Lead
    • Provide necessary support for audits as requested.
    • Review contractors' execution plans & advise Subsea Equipment Lead
    • Provide support for permitting activities as required
    • Coordinate and/or participate in periodic project HSE and Quality audits and inspections, formal incident reviews and support the preparation of relevant documentation

AUTHORITY & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This position will report directly to the Brownfield Subsea Delivery Lead.  As a member of the Shenzi Project Team, the Subsea Engineer will work closely with the other team members in a shared responsibility to deliver a safe, operable development system for the Shenzi project within the agreed HSE criteria, budget and schedule.  Other working relationships will be with the Central Engineering Function to share important lessons learned and to ensure that company policies, practices and standards are maintained.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor degree in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline required
    • Professional qualifications and related training preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of deepwater (>1500') subsea equipment design, fabrication, testing, and/or installation experience required.
    • An understanding of subsea equipment design, fabrication and installation practices in deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
    • Familiarity with US Gulf of Mexico regulatory requirements.
    • Demonstrated ability to interface with other relevant project disciplines (e.g., drilling and completion, topsides).
    • Experience with engineering QA/QC processes.
    • Knowledgeable of fabrication and testing QA/QC processes
